Fantastic youth hostel. Great place to stay if you want to go up Haystacks and then go to the pub after!

Lovely setting and pleasant/helpful staff. Stayed here and climbed haystacks onto green Crags for amazing views over Buttermere and crummock waters.

Great hostel. Staff friendly and helpful. Very clean. Location fantastic.

Staff were friendly for the most part. Only problem was not present at agreed arrival time for group booking, left car blocking the space for coach to turn around and got angry when after 3 hours of waiting for someone to show up to move the car, the car was moved 6 inches to allow the coach to get out. Catering was acceptable but not really FFP for active outdoor education (burgers, pizzas, chips etc) and very bland sandwiches for packed lunches. Good breakfast and quantities of meals were good, nobody was left hungry. Rooms were nice and well presented with good sheets. We had exclusive booking, experience may be different for a private booking rather than exclusive booking.

whenever you hear a hostel, you really don't have a good image in mind, but wow YHA. This is the most classic, well serviced, amazing stay I ever had. 5star through and through. Thank you ever so much team Buttermere for the memories. 😀

Excellent YHA. Great food, licenced bar, very friendly and helpful staff. 2 course cooked meals available every night. Wide choice of breakfast (including full English). The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. They were happy when we turned up at midnight (and even came out to help us park). A great base for walking this part of the Lakes. Highly recommended.

I didn't hate it but it wasn't the nicest place I've been. The staff were very helpful and nice. The resources were pretty good and the beds were decent.
