A warm and friendly welcome. Coniston Holly How is family run and Glen the manager really shows that it is a labour of love running the hostel. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. They weren't trying to shove too many beds in each room like they do at other YHA's. The location is incredibly convenient. It is walking distance from a lot of things. Food is very good too. I would give it six stars if I could.

We stayed in a tipi not in the Youth Hostel. The tipi was very clean and comfortable. There were 4 mattresses which were on the floor. They were very comfortable. Apart from 2 big bean badge and a lockable wooden chest (you're to provide your own padlock) & bedding there's nothing else. Check in at the Hostel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The tipis are sighted behind the Hostel now and are about 3 min walk from the bottom car park. We found after taking all our gear up that you can park temporarily at the Youth Hostel. You have full access to Hostels facilities, self catering kitchen, restaurant, tv room etc.... There is an outside toilet and shower for campers and tipi users, however I never used them, the rest of the family did and they said they were ok. I used the main Youth Hostel shower and they were really good. The night was very comfy and warm. We were provided with duvets, sheets and pillows. We'd taken sleeping bags and extra blankets just in case. They weren't needed. We were too hot. But it was unseasonably warm. The mattresses were extremely comfy. The reason I've not given 5 stars is because they're advertised as having lighting. The lighting wasn't working (solar/eco). As seasoned campers we took our own lighting and were thankful we did.

Super helpful staff..friendly atmosphere. Plenty of self catering facilities. Clean and in a brilliant position.

Not enough facilities for campers, only 1 shower and 1 toilet, no other washing facilities. Gravel on the paths in the camping area was uncomfortable to walk on, pitches weren't flat enough with to many stones etc on the pitches.

Nice old style Hostel great for the Old Man

Good location, reasonable rates (for the Lakes!) and friendly staff. Just needs some bigger mugs in the kitchen!
