wow, when I was looking for a picture of a red squirrel to post [ because I didn't have my camera to hand] I stubled across Island photographer Stuart Shore. These two fox cubs by the needles are brilliant.

Welcome as YHA Totland
Totland Bay is an idyllic seaside location in the peaceful west Wight, perfect for an inexpensive family break, a relaxing long weekend, or a school trip.
The hostel is conveniently situated to take advantage of local beaches and walks, being set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, much of which is owned by the National Trust.
... The attractions of Colwell Bay, The Needles Pleasure Park and Alum Bay are all within easy reach as well as opportunities for cycling, sea kayaking, paragliding, boat trips, fishing, sailing, surfing and horse riding.
Take a walk along the downs or the cliff top path, enjoy an ice cream on the pier or take a dip in the sea before returning to a tasty evening meal in the hostel’s comfortable dining room.
Please read the notes for having some information ( direction, the hostel ...)

Visited this hostel as it was the venue of a weekend event I was involved in. Very pleased indeed with the facilities; it was ideal for us. :-)

Perfect setting, great host, clean, we had a lovely stay here thank you

User

Just spent 3 nights here - family of three adults. We felt very welcome in this hostel and the host went out of his way to accommodate an awkward diet. Very good home cooked meals - loved the homemade Eton mess! The hostel was clean and in a good location. We'll be back.

I went to YHA Totland Bay recently as part of a group with Carers IW who were running a Respite Weekend. It was an absolute gem of a building with amazing, varied, spacious, clean rooms that were very light for us to do crafts in, or to relax in as ‘quiet spaces’. Thank you YHA Totland Bay, I cant wait for the next event!

Had an excellent stay at the YHA @ Totland Bay a few weeks ago. The rooms were well lit, and as homely (as could be), there was plenty of space to sit and have some privacy...plus join in activities, and eat!! I was pleasantly surprised!

Great place to stay, friendly, clean and nice location

Amazing hostel! really cozy, warm and spacious with a great new dining area and drying room.

perfect for hikers like ourselves. We were a group of 46 and it didn't feel cramped, plenty of common areas for people to relax, read a book, socialize or watch a movie. I would strongly recommend this place-its a gem :)

Thank you Bob, we had a great stay. see you in October.

Outdooraholics/Keep on hiking :)

I don't have any other hostels to compare it to but my expectation of the place was fair and this accommodation was fair.

Quite clean, but 'used' in places, it's a hostel I didn't expect much more !

The only occasion I’ve been disappointed by a YHA hostel, booked this as a disabled traveller and informed the host, was told of issues relating to access of the building. However, it turned out there is no DDA Compliance to the building in any form, and would appear to be no desire to have disabled guests. (look at visit britain pink-book disabled-guests) Note also the, (See disability act 2010 for Accommodation) Used YHA for years and other Hostel/B&B, even with no declared provision there has always been something.

Unlucky with the weather on this stay and were cold, but no allowance for any heating or provision of extra covers for beds as it was “August” and “Summer”, despite having medical conditions that are aggravated by the cold. Laundry facilities leave a lot to be desired as there are washing machines, but no driers which are useful for both laundry and on you return from wet and soggy excursion in the rain which was frequent on out visit. The Beds are small and incredibly hard with the mattress being standard length but 2ft6” in width, whereas the standard single is 3ft x 6ft6” (size does make a difference) & in our room the lower bunk was a mattress on the floor. (hotel standard regulations don’t even list this size but dreams do as a child’s bed) & anybody want to join the argument of battered aluminium pans

Also not informed of the Building works in progress which had closed areas of the hostel off and limited use of some facilities, as well as covering some of the garden in builders materials and works equipment. If you like walking and are fit then this is a place to stay; Staff are in the most, very helpful and knowledgeable of the local area,
