LOVE this post from @mother_of_daughters 🙌🙌👏👏💖💖 one of the most frequent questions I get when I witter on about active birthing is ‘will my midwife let me/be supportive of this?’ My answer is always yes!!! Birth is not how it is portrayed in Movies or TV (don’t get me started on One Born Every Minute, @channel4 WTF?! 🤯🤬🙄) you definitely DO NOT have to be on the bed legs akimbo, chin to chest with gritted teeth and screaming like a banshee! MOVE however you want to move, liste...n to your body and go with the flow of your birth. It’s a beautiful thing ❤️ Repost from @mother_of_daughters using @RepostRegramApp - ACTIVE BIRTH - Get off the bed
I was teaching my midwifery student today about looking at the delivery room and how as midwives we can utilise the space and make it feel less clinical. With the majority of births taking place in hospital on an obstetric unit, the biggest feature as you walk into any room is the bed. But it doesn’t have to be set up like that. Women will automatically sit or lie on the bed and once that mentality of being the ‘patient’ in hospital sets in, it’s hard to try and change that behaviour. But as midwives we can make small changes to create a birth environment that encourages women to move, squat, stand, rock, sway and kneel. And birth partners, doulas and student midwives, move the bed, ask for a mat, a birthing ball, a chair, dim the lights, move unnecessary equipment, put some music on. These small changes can make huge differences. UFO - upright, forward and open #activebirth #getoffthebed #laboureard #midwives #studentmidwives

The spoils of our #2minutebeachclean 🤮🤮 loads of plastic, a plaster 😷, a sock, a NAPPY 😱😱 and roughly 4 million cigarette butts 🤯🤬😡 WTF humans?!! How hard is it to just PUT IT IN THE BIN?! There’s plenty of facilities, there’s no excuse. Rant over. If you’re going to a UK beach this summer look out for the #2minutebeachclean boards, there’s litter pickers and bags to help you clean up a bit of the beach. Our girls loved using the litter picker! 😂 #keepourbeachesclean #noplastic #loveyourenvironment #takeithome #thereisnoaway @ Croyde Beach

⚡️ R E V E R S E B R E A T H I N G ⚡️ morning folks! Well after showing off my Mum Tum (THANK YOU for all your gorgeous responses 😘❤️) I thought I should go back to basics. The thing that annoys me most about myself is that I know what I need to do (I teach it to other people FFS 🙄) but I just don’t do it myself. After having separated stomach muscles I became pretty paranoid about any ab work as it can make the separation worse, so I took it easy. But then taking it easy... turned into being lazy, and just not engaging my core muscles because it was uncomfortable, and it was easier to let them relax 👎👎 So Reverse Breathing is a fab way to gently engage your abdominals and slowly bring some strength in without it being too high impact. It’s easy to do too! Just pull in your abs and pelvic floor as you breath in, and let them relax as you breath out. DISCLAIMER : if you have (or think you have) separated stomach muscles, please consult your GP before starting any kind of exercise routine. Your first port of call should definitely be a women’s physio who can help you to safely close the gap. Any crunches/sit ups/crazy ab work will make the separation WORSE.

I’ve gone back and forth about posting this (it feels more than a little bit vulnerable!! 😳😬) but I feel it will help me, and hopefully help some of you too 🤞
Hi I’m Polly, and I have a weak core. You’d be forgiven for thinking this was a Pregnancy announcement. IT IS NOT. This is just my tum. My mum tum. It’s housed two beautiful babies and struggled with diastasis recti. After my second pregnancy I had just over a 4 finger gap in between my stomach muscles. Through gentle... rehab and yoga it’s now down to a 1 finger gap, which is a fab improvement, but the muscles need some work.
For a long time I’ve been telling myself this is just how my body is, that I’ll never get rid of my mum tum. Well that’s bullshit, and it’s time I stopped hiding behind it. The truth is my weak core muscles are causing me health issues. My posture is not great because I’m not holding myself upright properly, and so my shoulders, neck, hips and lower back are painful. It affects my yoga practice, and my confidence, on and off my mat. The fat surrounding my organs also puts me at a higher risk of heart attack and other scary health conditions.
It’s time for me to be honest with myself and take proper care of my body, to show it the love and respect it deserves.
So, if this interests you and you’d like to follow along, I will be looking at -
⚡️Targeted core exercises ⚡️Nutrition ⚡️Overcoming mental blocks ⚡️Posture ⚡️Cycle Syncing ⚡️Pelvic Floor health
And I will be calling on the help of some very knowledgeable peeps! 🙌
If you have any tips, or anything else you think I should be looking at, please pop me a comment or a DM 👍👋💖
Phew!! 😅

Pregnancy Yoga-

I wanted to just spread the word on how brilliant these sessions are! In truth I wanted to write this last week, but I was so relaxed after class I fell asleep!! The class truly is such a fantastic, relaxing, gentle atmosphere lead by the lovely, fantastic Polly, whose warmth exudes her as she welcomes you in each week.it covers gentle excersises, breathing techniques, general wellbeing and relaxation sessions. It is such a fantastic bonding experiance with bump, and it is so rare but so lovely to have this time to just connect with baby inside! I truly cannot recommend these classes enough to anyone, particularly mums to be, and Polly herself is such a genuine lady, and you really get the feeling your in safe hands from the moment you start. Classes are tailored to suit individuals needs, and nothing is too much trouble. Each time I walk out I feel about 2 stone lighter, unheard of amongst pregnant women! Thankyou Polly, you really are making such a difference, and I look forward to carrying on in your mum and baby classes!

User

Polly is fantastic! You can tell she has such a passion for yoga that alone is contagious! I have been doing the mum and toddler yoga with my little man but wanted some me time where I can get fit and relax so started Core play yoga last night. I loved the class and can't wait till the next one feel like I have done some exercise without any pain the next day!! And was wonderfully relaxed by the time I left! Wooohoooo! Highly recommended! ❤

User

Polly is fab! And the baby massage course gave me lots of techniques for carrying it on at home with my little one.

User

Just wanted to say how fab Polly's pregnancy yoga class is! As a sufferer from PGP, I have learnt many ways to reduce and prevent the back pain I have experienced and the tranquility of the class just makes everything much less stressful and manageable!

Very much looking forward to joining mum and baby yoga once baby no.2 has arrived!! Thank you Polly x

I've been doing the alternative yoga Luna / yoga Core play Monday group for probably about a year now- it's really helped with my back pain and hip issues and just giving me some " me time" to relax Polly tailors the sessions so you can do an advanced stretch on each move or not if it's not right for you- would recommend 100% thanks Polly x

User

I've been attending Pollys Luna classes since the beginning, and I absolutely adore them. That little bit of 'me time' on a Thursday is my tiny bit of sanity in an otherwise hectic world of looking after 3 under 3! Thank you Polly for the calm, the support, your extensive knowledge, and of course the wonderful giggles in a class full of amazing supportive women. I really wouldn't go anywhere else 💕😘

I started with pregnancy yoga and then came back for mum and baby yoga, both of which I would highly recommend. The classes are very relaxing, Polly is great and my little one seemed to really enjoy it.It is a great way to exercise and meet other mums and mums to be

User

I started my yoga with Polly in (I'm guessing) July 2016, just me and my bump. Then once baby was here and I had my myself organised we joined the mum and baby class, and finally the mum and toddler class.

I loved each of them differently, and am so sad that I have now gone back to work and my little girl to nursery, so we can no longer go, it was my little bit of sanity, it was fun and serious all at the same time.

I hope to be able to join Polly again sometime, she is a great teacher and tailors her classes to the individuals. You can tell she really loves everyone's baby's as well, she doesn't think twice about helping you out with them when you're having 'one of those days!'

User

I recently joined Polly's Mum & Baby Yoga sessions on a Monday morning and it was just what I needed! I walked in to class and it was like I could breathe again!!! (bit dramatic) but with a 7 month old and a 3 year old I hadn't found time to just relax and breathe. I get some time for me and lots of lovely interaction with my baby. It's calming, it's fun, it's exercise, it's interaction and the refreshments and chat at the end all set me up for a great week ahead.

I have searched for several years to find a yoga class that is inviting, friendly, fun and caring. Polly and her lunar class has been fantastic just this. From the the first email her warmth came across. Her lunar classes are full of warm laughter, I always leave knowing I have worked hard and know I will have a good nights sleep.

I have been going to Pregnancy yoga with Polly for approx 11 weeks. I love it. Polly is so welcoming and I have learnt a lot from going to her class as well as making new friends. Would highly recommend Polly's YogaBellies class x

I have been going to Polly's classes since April - many years since I did any yoga. The classes are a perfect balance of workout and relaxation and Polly gives everyone a caring safe space, just lovely!

User

I have been attending Polly's baby yoga group on a Monday morning with my twin daughters. She is brilliant - so enthusiastic and that enthusiasm is infectious. Both my girls come away from the class more relaxed (and they're pretty relaxed anyway) and always have a good sleep afterwards. It's the perfect way to start the week. Highly recommended!

User

I completed a course of pregnancy yoga with Polly last summer and recently went back without baby to give it a try with a less rotund belly! I absolutely loved it! She runs welcoming, relaxed classes and is really supportive; allowing you to go at your own pace and work to your abilities. Things arebttaken too seriously and the atmosphere within the group is lovely. I especially like the little guilt free lie down at the end of the session lol! Unfortunately maternity leave has left me broke so I can't book another full course but hope to book the occasional class as a treat to myself when able. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Polly 💖
