first time at York race course yesterday to see Paloma Faith and we absolutely loved it! Customer service was great, food & drink was very pricey but always expected at events like this! I placed my first bet and won and the weather just made the day. Fantastic day all round *****

User

We came to Saturdays Race Meeting Having paid For the County stand. Really Poor Experience. Really don’t know what the Advantages are for paying Extra for this. Within the first half Hour we were told No Drinks outside.Don’t move the Benches, and I encountered a very Rude man Working in the cloakroom. To be honest most of the stewards we encountered weren’t very polite. So we moved into the next stand where you could see the track from inside, stand on the terrace with a drink or stand on the Grass with a drink. If we had known this we wouldn’t have paid for the Restricted County stand. We had a good day but that was more because we moved stands, and the company we were with. IF we Return think we’ll just pay the entry Fee and stand with the casual punters. It looked much more easy Going and less restricted.

User

I attended the Summer Music Saturday showcasing Paloma Faith.

Although it was a good day I was a bit annoyed by the lack of water being offered... I know you could get it from the bars, but queuing for hours in the heat for water was a bit much, the weather was extremely hot, I would of thought you would of put on extra water stations, so people could get rehydrated quickly.. Paloma Faith was excellent even though I felt upset by the idiot that kicked off in the crowd, if I was her I wouldn’t want to return to this venue.. hopefully you will address the water situation for your next music events.. ???

User

Think it’s shocking, that in the county end you can’t take your drinks out on to the front to see the racing and they even serve your drinks in plastic cups so don’t know what the difference is!!! It was boiling hot yesterday and we still weren’t allowed to take them outside so had to go into the grandstand area to be able to go onto the front to watch the racing with a drink!!! total waste of money paying for a county ticket...and also FAR to busy!!!

User

The venue was lovely and very popular but unfortunately all the money they generate is not used for customer safety. Seems that security stops at the gate and doesn’t extend to the car park no matter how much you have spent they are not interested. I know this is so because unfortunately after a lovely day with special family and friends on return to our coach we were targeted and viciously attacked by about 50 Liverpool males who were seen fighting with another coach near ours just before this. There were about 8-9 males from our coach mobbed and victimised by 50 savages who were in a frenzy and wanted blood from anywhere or anybody. We did our best to ask them to stop but they wouldn’t listen and set about us in groups with bottles. Then some women joined and threw bottles onto the people that were on the coach and then males and females started to try and get in the coach and smash the windows. Our men were on the ground and kicked and punched by groups but did the best they could - it resulted in injuries but with one serious injury inflicted being a brain bleed. We rang police and called for assistance immediately from York Racecourse but got nothing. It was after a very very long and frightening 18 minutes that 1 person arrived from York Race course who did nothing. I am disgusted that there is no security or CCTV and that this situation could have ended with fatalities ! It was very very distressing with one female requiring paramedics for several panic attacks where she couldn’t breathe. Then we had to stay for a few hours but despite York Racecourse being aware of this nobody from customer service came out to check if we were ok or needed water or anything!! Where were you York Racecourse?? You have to be responsible for the safe departure of your customers not the blood of a death /s on your hands. Disgusting and shameful

User

Starts classy and interesting, but turns to drunken over-crowding after first race, then poor-to-no information displayed on results to each race, and after all that the car park marshals post-event could usefully marshal traffic rather than merely stand around discussing the gridlock on their walkie-talkies. Music acts need a hefty penalty payment clause if fail to get there punctually, such as Tom Jones who evidently couldn't be bothered tonight else he would have given himself extra time for the bad weather.

User

Disorganised chaos is only way to describe the experience far too many people crammed in like sardines ques for everything all county stand entered grandstand and made it even worse no security or bins/litter collectors plastic glasses and jugs strewn all over the floor for people to stand on think a few ground rules should of been set .. even poor Paloma Faith had to deal with ‘Arseholes’ her words where was the security ??!! Won’t be going again very disappointed

User

Been to events previously and always enjoyed, however this Saturday (Paloma Faith Music Saturday) was disappointing to say least. Shuttle bus queues were astronomical, entry queues were similar and poorly managed, toilet queues horrendous and then after all of that having to face the bar queue was just soul destroying. Bar staff untrained, slow and clueless - not their fault, clear training and instructions should be given, especially to temporary staff. Got served at bar around 2.15 and they’d run out of cider and the poor soul serving didn’t know difference between rose wine and prosecco? Our full group only went to bar once the whole afternoon as it was just insane and far too warm to queue indoors for over 30 minutes - where was the air conditioning? Watched start of Paloma and as many others have said she could hardly be heard, very disappointed in this and we left. Too many people and not enough staff all round. I’ve never seen the racecourse as packed, felt really uncomfortable and somewhat unsafe. Shame on you York races management for appearing to put greed over ensuring a fun, safe and enjoyable day for your guests.

User

Attended the Paloma Faith showcase event yesterday. It took an hour to go to the toilet, buy a drink and get some food by which time we’d missed a race. As avid racegoers this has been one of the worse race days I’ve ever attended. New bar staff didn’t know how to pour drinks, there was a scrum to place a bet and there was too many people, lots of which had just sat down on the grass in the paddock area blocking walk ways and no one telling them to keep certain areas clear, you just couldn’t move.

User

After planning our first trip to the races, a friend and I had high expectations for the day. The bus in was packed, as was the queue for the buses, but you kind of expect that and laugh it off. We got into county stand, which you pay extra for, to wait for 20 minutes in a queue. I got a pimms pitcher thinking we'd head out after putting our bets on and watch the races, only to be told you couldn't take your drinks out of the stand, which was heaving. All the sheltered areas were packed, so we had the option to sit on a wall holding our drinks, or stand with them. We sat, in 28 degree heat, with no shade. I will add the drinks were all served in plastic, so there was absolutely no reason for this. Also, everybody around us wanted to watch the races up close, so you're effectively encouraging people to neck alcohol as quickly as possible on a red hot day, in order to be able to move around. Wise? I think not. We left eventually and headed for food and a bar, after a 30 minute wait to use the toilet. Whatever capacity is at this venue, it needs to be lowered, as it can only be greed on their behalf. It was horrendous, you couldn't move! We queued for a total of 1 hour 30 minutes for a cider and a box of noodles. We then headed down the field in order to secure a good viewpoint for the concert. I will add, from what I've read and heard, those who remained in county stand couldn't actually hear the concert, so just as well we went elsewhere. The field was fine, but the trip to a toilet or for a drink became so tedious that we just stayed sat in the end, if one ventured we'd be gone 45 minutes to an hour everytime. The concert was good from where we were, which is the only reason I've given 2 stars as opposed to 1. The bar staff were too few and poorly trained/prepared. Not their fault, again down to greed on the part of the organisers. Leaving was bedlam, the queue for a shuttle so bad we walked to the train station instead, after purchasing flip flops sold outside. I'm usually one to grin and bare it and make light, but I was extremely disappointed. I've always wanted to visit the races and spent a lot on outfit etc, as us ladies do, and transport as well. There was nothing fun, organised or even safe about the event! No need for an excessive number of people in a venue that is largely overpriced already. Well done Paloma, who was the highlight of the day.. and comiserations to those who paid to see her and couldn't even do that in the finish. Disgraceful

User

first time at races and never again, very over crowded, obviously just greed not thinking of the people they take money off, by the time you had got a drink and had to stay in the bar with drink, stood up as no seats available, (county stand) just a sham, went on a hen do and barely together all day due to this, missed most races, waited for Paloma Faith to come on could barely see her and couldnt hear her, she even had to restart a song as sound system was so diabolical, we walked up closer to stage to discover in other stands could eat and drink in there, why you couldnt in county stand I have no idea especially in the heat, made enough money out of people there should at least make it comfortable for people there, will NEVER get my money again shame on you

User

What a waste of money and a day! Queued to get in (hour and a half), queued to get drinks (over 45 minutes each time). Queued to go to the loo (20 minutes). Paid to go in the county stand - to find you couldnot go out side with drinks. It was a hot day and there wasn't even any water provision! Couldn't hear Paloma faith and then queued to get out. Never again!

User

Went yesterday and the only thing I enjoyed about it was the weather and the company I was with - it would have been been a better afternoon Sat in the beer garden of my local! Queues, queues and more queues! Who knows why you couldn't take drinks outside in the County Stand when only a foot away people were drinking outside! Absolute madness! Paid extra to go in County Stand and it was just a free for all in the bars in the courtyard - so just what was the point?? Just pure mayhem! Couldn't even hear Paloma till the last few songs! Don't think I'll bother again! Just pure greed on York Races part letting far too many people in & not catering for the amount of people expected!!

User

Went on Saturday and nothing but ques! Took about 45 mins to get served and then wasn't aloud to take it outside to be able to watch the racing! Already bought my ticket for 28th of July for another event with friends. If I knew it was this busy I definatly would not have bought the tickets and would not be travelling to York for the event from Newcastle! Really disappointed and now not looking forward to going back on the 28th

User

The queues for the bar were horrendous and no drinks were allowed outside in the County Stand, even in plastic cups. I don’t think this is the greatest idea with it being 27 degrees outside and even hotter inside!

We battled on for an hour or so, then decided to get a taxi to York centre before we ended up with heat exhaustion.

User

The Tom Jones concert was cancelled due to bad weather. Ok it’s not the racecourses fault that he didn’t make it there like the 1000s of fans who did, but I do blame the racecourse for the way it was handled.

We saw the speakers taken down an hour or so before the cancellation was announced. I feel it we were only informed just before so the bar and food takings wouldn’t suffer.

Having people sat out in the rain when management knew the gig was off is selfish and unfair.

The 50 % refund is an insult.

User

Such a disappointment for what should have been a fabulous day. The fact you couldn’t take a drink out of the bar or ‘sitting area’ of County Stand was absolutely ridiculous. The wait at the bar was horrendous and we had to crowd round one table standing up. Who’s idea was this?? On such a hot day?? Never again, will stick with Newcastle

User

If you enjoy racing avoid York at all costs. Full of stag and hen do's and way too over crowded. It wasnt possible to have a drink and put a bet on between races because of the length of the cues. When you finally managed to get a drink you wernt allowed outside to watch the horseracing with it???

It seems like York is now catering for the chav brigade, lots of drunks in cheap suits and "ladies" falling about all over the place.

Not just the worst days racing ive ever been to but the worst ever event.

User

I was looking forward to this event but what a disappointment. The whole event was just too big, we'd booked for the grandstand, half the people in the county stand seemed to come into the grandstand it was far too full. Queues for everything, at least a half hour wait for a drink, food or a wee.

Tons of rubbish all down the grandstand steps it was an accident waiting to happen with high heels and people a few sheets to the wind. Cigarette butts were just being thrown down by careless people and there was paper everywhere, I'm surprised there wasn't a fire. Have to say the only well organised things were the free iced water on the bars, and the hog roast stand, it was busy but staff were really well organised.

As for the music, the sound quality was dreadful, I may as well have put a cd player inside my washing machine, shut the door and stayed at home. I've been to race days before but this really was an ordeal. A really disappointing day, certainly won't be doing it again.
