Surely music should be high on the list of priorities in our schools?
With so many benefits to our children; from improved confidence, well-being and coordination to improvements in other areas of the curriculum, such as maths and literacy, surely it's not rocket science?!
Our outreach programme is currently working wonders in a number of local primary schools. We support our local schools through the provision of instruments and where required a fully qualified and enthusia...stic music teacher. We do this because we believe in the power of music and that every child deserves the opportunity to learn music, no matter what their background or situation.
If you know of a local Leeds primary school that would appreciate some support with their music provision, please ask them to get in touch.

A few years ago researchers uncovered what they believed to be the oldest musical instruments ever found. Dating from between 42,000 and 43,000 years ago, the flutes made from bird bone and mammoth ivory are a tantalising insight into our ancestors lives.
"Music could have played a role in the maintenance of larger social networks"
Music still does this today. It brings people and communities together. It helps us forge social groups and friendships. It helps fight the epidem...ic of loneliness and keeps our brains active and stimulated. It also brings joy to those who both play and listen.
Have you always wanted to play music? Is it something you've been putting off for years? Why not get yourself booked in for a trial lesson and get it ticked off your bucket list! It's never too late to start. In fact, starting later in life has its own benefits (see recent blog post: http://www.yorkshire-music-lessons.co.uk/ why-retirement-is…/ )

Any solo singers, duos or quartets fancy getting involved?

Have you heard of Feversham Primary school?
It was a school struggling - SATS results were poor and it was just coming out of Special Measures when it introduced music as a compulsory subject.
It is now in the top 10% of schools in the country.
... An inspiring read.

Interesting article about why schools should be ensuring music is central to the curriculum.
We are currently supporting music provision in a number of local primary schools with free musical instruments and the skills of one of our talented, dedicated and qualified music teachers.

Medical studies have shown that music therapy can significantly improve and support the mood, alertness and engagement of people with dementia.
And, that's not all....Music therapy can reduce the use of medication, help to manage and reduce agitation, isolation, depression and anxiety.
What an amazing thing music is.

So pleased that music education is back in the news. We are huge believers in the power of music and see every day how it can improve and impact positively on young people's lives.
It's exactly the reason why we have our primary school outreach programme. Giving young children the opportunity to learn an instrument when they would otherwise not get the chance.
If you'd like to find out more about our Outreach Programme, please do get in touch. We're keen to spread it out into... more Primary schools around Leeds.
