Yorkshire Dales House Description
School House is a landmark property which sleeps 12 to 15 in luxury, with spacious reception rooms and a glorious kitchen, in a village setting with four local pubs and a shop on the doorstep. All surrounded by the grandeur of the Yorkshire Dales countryside. What better place for a holiday – whether for a large family gathering, or a group of friends? In our short letting history we have had family birthday gatherings, ‘sophisticated’ hen and stag events, and a full murder mystery evening – what could you do?
Previously the village school (still complete with its own bell tower), it’s a Grade II listed building. It has an imposing position near the top of the main street, opposite Middleham Castle.

Tour de Yorkshire dates now available at the house, in the midst of the Friday action! Late April into May I reserved it for cycling buddies, but they are not coming, so it is available! Tell your cycling friends, it’s a gem for groups.

The Tack Room restaurant The Wensleydale
Dinner last night was excellent, a chef who has taken his experience from cheffing around France and Italy and applied it to the best local produce. For somebody now acclimatised to London prices the bill was a nice surprise too. The other pubs in the village offer good pub food, this is good restaurant food, I love both, and in the Tack Room you are going up a level on the food quality and excellence at a price not so different from the pub alternatives. highly recommended. Great service from the team too, do make use of Manuel's sommelier knowledge.
Dining news in Middleham, the White Swan is now the Wensleydale Hotel, patrons Charles (see photo) and wife Fiona. Going tonight so will report back. Local reviews are excellent, so looking forward to it. The Wensleydale www.thewensleydalehotel.com
Upgrade alert! Having finally discovered solar powered velux blinds, we have now fitted them to the three high windows in Tower room!
We have seen and heard the swallows, gangs of twenty or more, watched the Rooks settle on the castle before moving en masse to the trees behind us. Then, impossible to photograph, bats have dashed and twirled, within a metre of us in the garden. To be here now is such a wonderful experience. I nearly recorded it again, like last year, but I now think that diminishes the whole thing. You have to be here.
