Get overhead ready! Check the post below from @docmikeyassonpt . Control Your ShouldersπŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ . πŸ‘‰Here’s a great exercise to help get your shoulders ready for overhead activities. By keeping your scapulas retracted here, we’re able to work through full shoulder range of motion so there is a focus on mobility as well as stability by engaging the muscles in your posterior rotator cuff and upper back.... . πŸ”‘To help gain better control of your shoulder we want to be strong through a full range of motion. If you’re struggling at the top, go as far as you can until you feel as if you keep your scapulas engaged and arms off the ground. . πŸ’ͺTry this out instead of a passive stretch before your next lift and see how you feel! . βœ…Having problems with your shoulders and nothing seems to help? Shoot me a DM or email at mike@bigleagueperformanceandrehab.co m to see if we can get you moving and feeling better! . TAG, COMMENT, SHARE with a friend who needs to control their shoulders better‼️

Clearing some knots from the lat, teres and infraspinatus after a long back workout. βš™οΈ . Keep it simple: roll until it feels good! The goal here is a restriction free movement. . Spend some time on the tender spots, short movements back and forth, and if not too painful hold pressure on the knots until they let go. ... . Adjust the pressure by angling your body and have fun!

Play it smart guys! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» . . #Repost @tacticinitiative with @get_repost ・・・... Play it smart. ⚠️ . When injuries happen you have mainly two options: forge ahead or play smart. . Either way it's like a credit card, playing smart you're settling your credit now, forging ahead you're gonna pay in the future, with interest. πŸ’Έ . Listen to your body, fix your dashboard lights every time they flash, and if you need help with your recovery hit me up. I had my fair share of injuries on the mats! Very likely I know what to do, but most importantly, if I don't I surely know who does!πŸ‘ŒπŸ» . For you guys training tonight stay safe and have fun! I'll get some foam rolling time with my new @tp_therapy βš™οΈ

Holidays on the beach or rehab? Both! ✌🏻 . As with all contact sports, trauma injuries are unpredictable and the night before my holidays I had an injury affecting my C7-C8 joint, with herniation of the disc and a nasty pain down the back of my arms. Quite scary, lost a lot of strength and range of motion too. Also a very unfortunate location as I couldn't manually assess the situation. . Optimised nutrition and rest, gentle mobility during the first 2 days and solid rehab wo...rk at least twice a day plus daily swimming for the next 4 days and we're out of the woods. . Neck herniation is an injury that takes normally 6 to 8 weeks to heal with conventional treatment. Instead I'm happy to report that 8 days from the trauma I'm back training at 85%. . Think outside the box, conventional/conservative approaches are normally followed by mediocre results. πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Better sleep for better soft tissue recovery. πŸ‘ŒπŸ» . My pre bed ritual includes a 1g shot of organic reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), 10:1 concentrated. This mushroom contains over 36 bio-active nutritional compounds, including beta-glucans, antioxidants and enzymes. . Reishi is an adaptogen, it supports physiological processes in the body and promotes homeostasis - that fine, dynamic balance between all internal processes in your body. Taken before bed reishi improves your quality ...of sleep and helps your body tuning processes such as extracellular pH, blood sugar levels, mineral levels and so many more. . Your body repairs and recharges during your sleep, and if you're having any soft tissue related treatment, I strongly recommend adding a cup of reishi before bed to boost your recovery! . The one in the video I sweetened with organic stevia. Mix the powders first, add a drop of cold water - so you don't kill the bio-active compounds - and pour hot water to taste. Below 60 degrees C you should get all the benefits from your cup! . You can also tweak the flavour by adding liquorice, maca or cacao powder! β˜•οΈ

Gratitude Wednesday πŸ™πŸ» . Busy day, training morning and evening, plenty of clients during the day, both in the clinic and home visits! . The black bag is a laundry bag. Each towel in that bag is a client that could go back to their favourite sport, or a client that went back to work without aches or pains.... . I feel privileged for being able to help!

An easy drill to improve your back extension (and counter that chair hangover after 8+ hours in the office). πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ» . Place a foam roller just below your shoulder blades and support your head with your hands. Hips on the floor, feet flat on the floor, knees pointing at the ceiling. . As you hyperextend your spine, relax for 1 repetition, take a deep breath in for 1 repetition. Sound on for breathing cues.... . 3-4 sets, 10-12 repetitions of each. πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Some of the benefits that soft tissue can get from sauna, according to Jamie Hale, from Bodybuilding.com-- . "Saunas induce perspiration, which helps in ridding the body of toxins. Saunas also increase circulation and raise body temperature, which helps the body fight aches and pains. Studies also show they help to relieve muscle tension. For athletes, the relief of muscle tension leads to quicker recovery between workouts." . Tips for a positive sauna experience:... . πŸ‘‰πŸ» Stay hydrated after session. πŸ‘‰πŸ» Allow sufficient time for greater benefits. πŸ‘‰πŸ» Begin on the lowest shelves and work your way up as the session goes on. πŸ‘‰πŸ» Rest after getting out of sauna.

Lacrosse ball massage is a form of self-myofascial release. Fascia is responsible for connecting muscle groups, and when deformation of the fascia occurs (often due to poor posture, exercise routine or trauma), it can cause pain and restricted movement patterns. . Having a lacrosse ball at hand allow you to get rid of those restrictions on the go. . The easiest way to use a lacrosse ball is to place it in the area where you have pain and roll it gently in all possible directi...ons, against the wall or the floor, until the area is no longer uncomfortable. . You should feel immediate relief. In case you don't, or if the issue persists, we can help!

There are times when hands alone cannot fully locate and treat soft tissue injury at deeper levels. . In these cases, instruments can be utilized, allowing the therapist to reach those deeper tissues, as well as adjacent and more superficial tissues, to find the source of restriction and to treat it. . These tools break up scar tissue, and facilitate the first-stage of healing in the body.... . Scar tissue is formed in tissues to protect the body after an injury, but it is much less flexible than undamaged tissue. . As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension increases on tendons causing tendinopathies, and nerves can become entrapped. . This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness. . Because of the ability to reach different levels of tissue, IASTM (instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation) is useful in these chronic pain syndromes, as well as acute pain syndromes such as sprains and strains.
