ISLAMIC CALLIGRAPHY with Master Fatima Gulnaz Mahboob
The 8 week course introduces you to “Husnuhat”- the practice of beautiful writing according to the Ottoman tradition. This is a practical introduction to Islamic/Arabic writing and provides participants a step by step guide to writing the Arabic letters in the Nesih/ Naskh script.... Students will be shown how to construct each letter through basic strokes and learn the traditional practise, tools and materials used for Husnuhat.

Istanbul is a magical city where East meets West. With its long history of being at the centre of multiple empires, Istanbul is the world's fifth popular tourist destination. In October, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü - London will organise a six-day field trip to Istanbul offering a wealth of historic and religious places to take in. The main goal of this trip is to provide practical workshops while visiting important ancient sites and museums such as the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palac...e and Sultanahmet Mosque. Practical workshops will be run by our Illumination/Tezhip Course instructor Nagihan Seymour-Art, Illumination for the places visited, so that students will be able to analyse the patterns they saw on their visits. In addition to practical workshops, there will be visits to renowned masters of other traditional arts during the trip. Please note that students must arrange their own flights to and from Turkey. I really enjoyed my beginners Turkish course. Our teacher Sevinç was HARİKA. She made it enjoyable with Turkish modern music videos and games. Not boring verb tables. So you were learning essential grammar in an enjoyable way. I was not great at the language but she always kept me motivated and never lost patience even when explaining possesive pronouns for the 1000th time. I always here in my head onun arabası var güzel mi lol and think of the fun dancing we did as a group �
