A project to create a new responsive website for DLUK Photography ( www.dlukphotography.co.uk ) is now nearing completion. Just photo galleries to code. This will also be another site to purchase the popular 'Our Wedding Day' personalised certificate. The advantage of responsive design is that websites are automatically optimised for mobile smart phones, tables, and PCs.

Datalite UK Ltd are supplying some prizes of their framed The Day You Were Born certificates for The Castle Inn, Sandown, Isle of Wight for their Halloween Quiz Night raffle in support of Cats Protection. DLUK Photography website is in the process of a major update. This will be to a responsive design, to suit the needs of the growing smart phone and tablet users, but will be adaptive to simultaneously suit traditional computer users. We have supplied the frames for his personalised cartoon products for a number of years, and these will also make an appearance on the programme. Charlie naturally produced cartoons of the Dragons for the programme.

EU VAT REGULATIONS BLOG POSTING ON 'HAPPY BOOTSTRAPPER'

This is a US site, and they are as bemused as the rest of us on the new EU Regulations. I note that they view these bonkers EU regulations that could kill small businesses as 'collateral damage' acceptable to the EU's wider interests. Nice.
... Here are the comments I posted:-
I’m Managing Director of a UK based small business selling amongst other things personalised gift products. The EU is an absolute nightmare, and is not popular in the UK – I think we’ll be out as soon as the people are given a vote. This latest EU bureaucracy is absolutely bonkers. Luckily we had few digital products and we were UK VAT Registered already. However, these EU rules, which we only found out in January 2015 (They were deliberately not publicised to small firms). In summary this is what was imposed on us:- 1. VAT for digital products based on the location of customer, 28 countries with different VAT rates, and no up to date central list. 2. Onus on businesses to provide 2 independent proofs of location. Customers not happy with this! 3. Requirement to keep personal data of customers and their locations for 10 years. Breaking Data Protection rules unless registered with proven security systems. 4. Not allowed to circumvent by restricting sales to outside EU, due to EU anti-discrimination laws. 5. Not allowed to sell only to UK customers, again due to EU anti-discrimination laws. 6. Not being able to advertise correct VAT inclusive price (as you don’t know the location of the customer yet). Breaking UK laws. 7. Requirement to collate various rates and submit numerous extra VAT tax returns. With penalties if these are wrong or missed. 8. Opening possibility of having to submitting accounts and additional tax returns for the other 27 European countries (These tasks are enough dealing with just your own country). 9. Possibility of breaching unintentionally the various local laws existing in the UK. 10. The above is required even if you have a tiny business selling one knitting pattern a year online. 11. Fine of up to 3.5 Million Euros if you don’t comply or get anything wrong. In short it is now impossible for our business (or any business for that matter, even the big players don’t fully comply with the list above) to comply with the above new EU madness. The choice is between breaking at least one law or not selling. We have as a direct result removed all our digital products. There is no legal way we can sell them under this EU bureaucracy. We’re lucky most of our products are physical goods, others not so lucky:- Over 200 businesses in the UK have already closed due to this – and the scheme has only been going for a few weeks.

CRAZY NEW EU VAT REGULATIONS WEF JAN 2015
Regret that due to crazy European Union inspired new VAT regulations effective from January 2015 we are no longer able to offer the 'Advance Copy' option to our www.dayborn.com customers. This is because this product is classified as a digital product, and complicated and virtually impossible to implement VAT rules come into force. This bureaucractic multi EU country VAT returns, privacy issues (we would need to store customer details... contrary to data protection acts). It is with regret that it is simpler and more profitable simply to discontinue the Advance Copy product.
A note has been posted on our 'Options' page:- Sorry, but our advance copy service as a digital product falls under complex and extremely bureaucratic new European Union VAT laws introduced January 2015. As a result it is no longer possible to offer this product to EU (Non UK customers). Furthermore though we are already UK VAT registered, due to EU discrimination laws, we are additionally unable to offer this product to UK or even to Outside EU customers.

Our company has been approached by an international television company, requesting an interview regarding the company's experiences of the European Union in relation to running a business. A great Halloween Event held at Caulkheads in Sandown. The band was Dirty Li'l Secret and they were brilliant. The horror bride and groom were a lovely couple called Bev and Paul, and kindly allowed me to take some close ups of them.
