About Driftwood Beach Bar

Beach Bar & restaurant and live music

Driftwood Beach Bar Description

The name changes depending on where you are. In Goa they are called ‘Shacks’, in Mexico ‘Palapas’, in France ‘Clubs’, in Spain ‘Chiringuitos’, iin Greece ‘Tavernas’, in the U. S. A & Caribbean simply ‘Beach Bars’.
But the function is the same, to provide their clientele with sufficient food & drink, for a long hard day on the beach, while at the same time acting as the beach’s social focus & mood setter.
Any beach bar worth the name should have sand underfoot and a general feeling of impermanence.
Driftwood is the classic building material. . . and that is where I started. . .

Well I can certainly think of worse places to waste time first bit of sunshine, you were my first stop. Nice to have you back for another summer. Top place

Visited here last night with my girlfriend and 2 friends as we saw they had a offer on Facebook... Was very pleased with the service, the lady on the bar was very pleasant and attentive. Food really hit the spot, I ordered the giant mixed grill cooked just how I like it, also a large menu of cocktails to choose from which we enjoyed. Didn't matter that it was snowing!

The food made from scratch excellent quality great views and perfect for us jet skiers defo will be going back 👌🏻

User

Really great bar, good food and lovely shots great friendly staff would highly recommend and will definitely be going back again

User

Only I could look at massive list of cocktails and ask for the one that isn't on there... But you happily made it and it was perfect!

Lunched here today, after visiting last year in the summer. The place wasn't as busy as our last visit in July but food was still good, had a sangria cocktail and my partner had a Cuba libra.. Wish it had been sunny could of stayed all day. It seemed some changes were being made ready for this summer maybe? Will definitely come back to see

User

Lovely food & setting & very friendly staff. A definite next time we are here

User

Love it here, can’t wait for summer, very chilled and laid back, even better when the live music is playing

User

Great meal as always and great views across the beach

User

Breakfast was the best I had for a long time. Would go back any time. The price are good for what you get.

User

Best place to go on the Island for breakfast! Really lovely friendly staff. Cocktails were nice in the evening too. Right on the beach, will definitely be returning. Thank you!

User

After relaxing on our paddle boards in the perfectly flat sea Monday morning there was nothing more enjoyable than an ice cold beer in the sunshine. Cheers

My only complaint is the good weather didn't last long enough ! Great spot for lunch and a pint.

User

Great spot on beach front . Food looked good but kitchen and bar closed early Sunday due to festival so never got to. try it.

User

Great place for a drink and bite to eat overlooking the beach

User

Good food, very busy so took awhile for food to come out.

Went to the restaurant on friday the 5th May, and have to say the food was not good, the service and cleanliness was fine no issues with that all. However the chips whilst i ate them were either over cooked or cooked in dirty oil and not very palatable at all. The chicken burger was again battered and cooked in the same oil, and had a very greasy taste to it.

The nachos with cheese was essentially just tortilla chips, cold with some melted cheese on it.

Chicken wing sauce was good, however the chicken wings not so much.

Wouldnt go back again, amd had much better food at the hotel, we stayed at, the burger, chips and onion rings there banging so head to the parkbury hotel for amazing home-made burgers.

Not good food. Very rude manager to my partner when she wanted to change her food. No mention of a refund. Member of public over heard said conversation at bar area and though it was disgusting the way my partner had been verbally treated. Customer service very poor. Staff seemed nice though. Manager also shouting at chef to come out very unprofessional. Look after your customers and they will look after you. Manager must of been having a bad day, but reading some other reviews on here and trip advisor, this isn’t the first time. Oh well will spend my money else where.

Just to make people aware.

We currently have family staying during the holidays so decided to dine out at "The Driftwood Beach Bar" in Sandown as it always looks so appealing.

There were 6 adults and a baby in our party. When we arrived most of the tables and floor were covered in discarded food. We finally found somewhere suitable to seat our party and decided to select something from the impresively extensive menu only to be handed a hand written list on a piece of old till roll with all the dishes no longer available, now not so impressive.

When we did order we were told there would be a 30 minute wait for food. They had run out of most of the drinks, we asked for bitter shandy but were given IPA shandy. We ordered veg lasagne but were served beef lasagne, luckily it as chosen through preference and not dietry requirements. We spent nearly £90 and the food was dire. We had to get our own cutlery and condiments and when we asked the waitress for tartare sauce for the scampi and fish & chips she didn't seem happy and dumped a handful of sachets on the end of the table.

That was the last we saw of the waitress, during our meal none of the tables around us were cleared and the food remained on the floor. We wernt asked if everything was ok with our meals or if there was anything else we required.

Most of our food stayed on the plates as the chips looked and tasted like they'd been cooked earlier in the day and kept warm or reheated. The gammon was as thin as bacon, the pea's flavourless. Overall an awful experience.

As we were leaving we spoke with a male member of staff (who a few minutes earlier had been semi naked whilst changing his t-shirt in the bar area). He seemed apologetic and offered us a complimentary drink, but as some of the party had already returned to the car with the baby and as we were driving we refused the very poor offer. He then asked if we still had our receipt and offered us a refund of half of what we had spent, which we accepted, we asked if he required the card that we had paid with but he said a cash refund would be easier. A minute or two later he returned telling us that the owner/manager had refused any refund. The owner/manager made no attempt to come and speak with us and seemed to have a complete disregard to the fact he has unsatisfied customers.

We own a holiday rental property and already have bookings for the entire 2018 summer season, not only will we not recommend this eatery we'll ensure ALL of our guests are warned to stay well away.

If the owner/manager of this venue would like to get in contact I'll be happy to return the contempt he has graciously shown his paying clientelle.
