For a young budding architect, one needs to know that drawing is essential in architecture as it expresses the interaction of the architect’s mind, hands and eyes. It is very important to draw to conceptualize architecture and not simply rely on the computer to do this on your behalf as the entire experience becomes impersonal, indirect, somehow, futile.

Project description
Lomocubes is a new innovative and sophisticated residential project by MPA Architetti, located in Lugano and commissioned by the entrepreneur Alessandro Lo Monaco.
Lomocubes is a luxurious and high profile condominium that overlooks the Lugano lakeshores. It is a groundbreaking architectural project that marks a new frontier in residential building construction. Finished in July 2013, Lomocubes synthesizes the best relationship between interior and exterior spaces, giving from the living room of each unit a wonderful view on the lake. A texture-in-motion built with a rigorous and wise use of materials leads to a seductive aesthetic result established on the succession between full and empty spaces, transparency and opacity.
Project description
This Washington Park Residence sits on a bluff overlooking Lake Washington with views of the Eastside and Cascades beyond. The house takes advantage of the site by contrasting mass and transparency to capture broad, unobstructed views while preserving privacy. Thick, thermally insulated concrete walls are layered and modulated on the street side of the house to provide carefully framed views from west facing rooms, add depth and shadow to the facade, and orchestrate the entry sequence through the courtyard to the front door. Upon entry, the transparency of the east side of the house is revealed with floor to ceiling windows and doors connecting to a stone terrace. The green roof mitigates storm water runoff while the geothermal heating system reduces fossil fuel consumption.
