Love aat do thankful they have made it harder and keeping the integrity of the accounting profession. AAT isn't for everyone it is hard and that's how it should be

I’ve been studying with aat for a year now and last Monday I sat my avsy exam.I must admit that even though the results are not through yet I’ve got a really good feeling about it...plus I passed the other nine exams with a result of over 96%...I do distance learning and work full time so it’s not like I’ve got lots of time on my hands...so to everyone who says it’s getting too hard to pass I don’t know...maybe your study resources are poor...I study with ics learn and use Kaplan books and find them really good and useful.

User

I Finally finished my AAT qualification last year. Very happy with AAT throughout my studies and would recommend anyone looking to do AAT if looking to get into accountancy.

I must admit I am surprised at the number of reviews which criticise the standard required to pass level 4 assessments. This level is intended to be equivalent to a Foundation Degree and, as such, enables exemptions both in university and chartered accountancy qualifications. I am a distance learner with a full time job in management. I have to put in long hours most evenings after work, at least 8 hours at the weekend and I often take a day off prior to an assessment to sit practice papers. It’s just what you’ve got to do!!!

User

Hello, I am about to start my aat training level 2. From what I understood reading some posts here, the new syllabus seems to be much harder than the previous one. Is it harder because the subjects are more difficult or because you might find technical issues during the exam? Does it apply to all levels or especially to level 4? Thank you

User

AAT has been a great professional qualification and it's been a pleasure to study it until...Level 3 infamous Synoptic Assessment which I failed because of, surprise surprise...Spreadsheets! Taking this exam was a nightmare, it was a humiliating and stressful 3 hours test with a very, very slim chance of completing the tasks from part 2.

I have worked as an accountant for over 8 years using EXCEL abundantly every day, creating financial reports and tables and charts for the management and I have to say I was shocked to see how unreasonably complicated and time consuming these tasks were...Surely, it is almost impossible for majority of students to go through all of questions within an hour and 30 minutes.

This whole synoptic exam is an absolute disaster and, as lots of AAT students have already pointed out, it should be either split into 2 separate exams (yes, I'd rather take 2 exams) or more time should be allowed for the spreadsheets...or it should be completely re-designed to improve the pass rate...

I'm planning to re-take the exam but I'm really deeply disheartened as I know I had studied really hard and had never failed any previous AAT exams (in fact I had always been doing very well often getting "succeeded" in some of papers.

I wish all the best to all AAT students and good luck with your assessments!

User

Well sat my level 3 synoptic (2016) exam today and have to say was bitterly disappointed with the time constraint placed on the second part, there wasn’t nearly enough time I am confident in the first part and also the first section in 2nd part, however did not have enough time to fully complete the last task this was very frustrating especially after the endless months of revising and preparation!

User

Up until new 2016 standards it was great course to do. With the new syllabus AAT have royally messed up. The program has no clear marking structure and exams are full of mistakes. And the worst part about the course now is, that despite AAT saying that program has issues and they still change things about (I have been in touch with them), there is no compensation for students. So all the resits for their poorly written exams comes out of students pockets. Looks like AAT, covered with all their bulletproof policies, just became another moneymaking machine, that doesn't really care about their students success as long as the money keeps flowing in. Count me out and I will never recommend this course to anyone either.

The customer service you will receive is from AAT Is disgraceful they have no regards for any of there students except taking fees.

My partner has been on the course for years passing every exam first time except for one (passing a month later). Six weeks ago during an exam about 80% of the computers crashed with still well over 30 mins remaining, in that six weeks there has been no explanation to why this happened, what AAT are doing about it. My partner ha emailed several times getting no response at all, finally today getting her results published to find out she had failed by a couple of marks. If she had been given the time to finish this exam I feel there would have been a different outcome. Today she finally had had enough a phoned for answers and is all AAT Wanted was a fee to take another exam. Nothing short of writing there own checks, with the attitude of them not considering it was there poor software that was the problem. They really are a disgrace of a company putting in rules like no one can bring the AAT in to disrepute ( we will do what we want when we wan and no one can argue with us.

The AAT are a disgrace and should not be a Governing body.

User

The customer service is beyond disgraceful. Some of the employees needs an urgent examination regarding at least two Fundamental Principles - Professional Behaviour and Competence and Due Care. They seem to not know what it means.

My issue was about Decision & Control exam with a result of 69% . I’ve appealed it on the base that question no 3 - regarding operating statements and absorption costing vs marginal costing - was misleading ( it didn’t state anything about rounding). I had to calculate the absorption costing for two different months ( quite strange considering that it should be absorption vs marginal costing). For the second month, the result of the division of fixed overheads to the number of units produced was not a whole number so, with no instructions regarding the rounding I’ve decided to round to two decimal places. Although I’ve used the correct method, the examiner didn’t like it and the marks were all lost.

Since 21of May (when the re-examination report came back unchanged) I’ve called AAT Customer Support four times and emailed once. Every time, the answer was that ‘the person responsible was out of the office but you will be contacted as soon as possible’.

I AM STILL WAITING!!!!!

The course material (Osborne or Kaplan) doesn’t in any way prepare you for some of the exam questions. Neither do the AAT practice papers, nor the green light tests. Since the new 2016 syllabus, it feels like they are pushing for students to fail instead of encouraging them to succeed.

User

Since the new 2016 standards it is almost impossible to pass. Most of the people in my class have failed so many times. Its very demoralising when you try your best and work ao hard just to fail again. AAT have messup up so much since the new standards. AAT use to be really good and achievable but not any more. I have read about alot of AAT students who are so dissapppointed with the changes and many mistakes made by AAT. I would not recommend AAT to anyone. They use to be really good before but have let down all of their students. Sorry AAT. You have done injustice to all of your students and taken away their confidence within themselves. We are all competent but your exams are full of mistakes so you are not competant. Its a shame for those who were passionate and wanted to succeed. Now they have wasted years on something that was not even attainable. Good luck to everyone qho is trying hard. Just know there are other routes and its not you. Trust me. Keep working hard

User

It was going so well, and then the Lvl 3 synoptic happened! I will find out my results next week but I do not expect to pass. I emailed AAT to complain and basically got handed a pack of pathetic excuses which contradict what my tutors have told me- I will include the emails in the comments.

User

I was class of 2015/2016 and after failing the ethics exam my tutor said it would be far easier if he transferred me over to the new 2016/2017 syllabus (so I can sit in classes too but that was not the case as I was not allowed to sit in) and have more of a chance passing that. I beg to differ! I have now been dropped from college and have no other help than YouTube, AAT website and Osbourne books (which have a lot of mistakes in them!) I sat the first exam and failed due to technical issues, had the chance to re-sit free in September and failed again. Now I have been transferred and if I do not pass this Synoptic Exam by December, I will fail the whole course despite passing all the other previous exam (wasting £2k). It is far too hard to revise the whole course again and wish we were told what part we were allocated just so we could concentrate on that area (in an ideal world). The online AAT Assessment are not good enough with variety or help. As for those 10 mark emails, how can one person remember all of that information we could get asked anything! I am very stressed and upset that it is so difficult and too broad in order to study.

User

I sat my AVSY twice and failed twice because of AAT's bad system and all the errors I have encountered during my exams, which made me fail the exam. If I fail an exam because I don't study enough, fair enough. But if I fail an exam because of their incompetency and I lose my work before the end of the exam, it is really demoralising. I am going to sit the exam in a few days for the last time, I got fed up of revising for the same exam and I was suppossed to study Level 4 now, but I am stuck with the last exam for Level 3. I don't recommend AAT anymore to anyone. Most of my collegues have already given up. Shame on AAT! I've been working so hard and I get time to study in the evenings after I finish work only and the only thing I get is a fail. Very dissappointed too!!!!

User

I failed twice so far.its so stressing to flick between screens to try to read the question and requirements of the question and going back to the main screen to put your answers. i took my first synoptic assessment ( Advance/ level 3) in May 2017 had a huge technical issues even i managed to do 2 of the question i couldn't upload my answers to AAT site so i failed my first exam , AAT agreed to pay all the cost for my second exam and given a £50.00 compensation for my troubles.Than i received a letter from AAT stating that all the technical issues resolved and they done some changes to improve the assessment, Anyway I was happy that they improved it i had to re book an re revise my exam, my second exam booked in September 17 and failed again. There was no improvement to the assessment other than they put the timer on the front screen. i wish we could have the questions as a hard copy printed so we dont have to flick between screens as its very time consuming and also plays a negative effect on concentration. Also whole exam is 3 hours its too long it should be a break in between or it should done two separate exams. I am hopping AAT will listen to students and find a way to improve the way they are doing their assessment, as their assessment does not measure my knowledge all i was doing on that exam battling with technical issues and competing against time to read and fit everything in one excel sheet.

I will not book my exam until AAT listen to the students and make some changes to current assessment technic.

User

I am very disappointed. Level 4 feels impossible to complete. There is limited support, even online system study assessments freezes all the time. I invested my time and money (and it is not cheap) so I need to finish, but I really regret taking part of it, instead of going for ACCA. Please note, I have academic background and I work in accountancy practice.

User

Disappointed as AAT are after money again. Not enough to pay annual sub's and adhere to the long list of things to do to be part of the AAT brand. I also seriously question how they are a charity since all they do is ask for money. It's a business service they supply, not support. When we have asked in the past for financial help with annual sub's since not making a profit after becoming newly qualified, they basically gave us an ultimatum of "pay or lose your AAT/MIP status". Without it you can't work to build up a business, so have to do into debt/go without to pay them. Doesn't make sense actually as essentially, we have to go into debt to pay a charity. When emailed them about it all you get is a wall of silence.

It was going so well, and then the Lvl 3 synoptic happened! I will find out my results next week but I do not expect to pass. I emailed AAT to complain and basically got handed a pack of pathetic excuses which contradict what my tutors have told me- I will include the emails in the comments.
