About Address & Address-2 Studies

The ADDRESS-2 study recruits people, newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and their siblings to get involved with research studies

Address & Address-2 Studies Description

To be eligible for enrolment:

1) You must be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes within the last 6 months.
2) You must be aged between 5-60 years.

Enrolment will be via your nearest participating study centre which will usually be located within a hospital (paediatric) diabetes clinic.

You will be given detailed written information about ADDRESS-2 and what it will involve. If you agree to take part, you will sign a consent form which will give us permission to collect and store information about you.

When you consent to participate in the study we will ask you about your diabetes, your medical history and your family medical history. We will also take a sample of your blood if you have agreed to it.

If you agree to donate a blood sample you will sign a second consent form which allows us to take and store your blood and the DNA extracted from it. Parental consent is required for children under 16 yrs.

We will aim to collect additional information about you at approximately 4 - 8 months from the date of your initial diagnosis. This may coincide with a diabetic clinic visit or by phone call from your local research team.

Signing up to ADDRESS-2 does not mean that you have to participate in future research projects. We will use the information we have about you to tell you about suitable research studies. It is up to you if you want to participate.
