It's Burns Night again and what better way to spend it but watching our lovely film about the Bard himself 'Comin' Thro The Rye' It's free on the BFIplayer https://player.bfi.org.uk/…/watch-comin -thro-the-rye-1947-o…
Arthur Dent lived and worked in Scotland from 1914 - 1925 and he loved everything Scottish. This was the only film he produced himself - later he left the production to his son David.

Happy new year to all our friends and supporters. Adelphi will be 80 years old in 2019 so we need to think up how to celebrate - all suggestions very welcome. And in the meantime a happy successful and peaceful new year to all of you from all of us.

'The Tell-Tale Heart' was shown at the Dorfman theatre last night as an event for the current Dorfman play of the same story. A fabulous evening - Stanley Baker's family was there - his widow Lady Ellen Baker and their children. They were lovely people and it was such a pleasure and an honour to meet them. Jo Botting our wonderful BFI curator was there and we did a joint introduction to the film. And the film went down a treat with the audience! A good night out for Adelphi Films and the first time the film has been on the big screen for 65 years.

24 1 G M Tuesday October 23 2018 | the times News Horror classic back from the dead after attic clear-out Jack Malvern When Jeff Wells moved house, he decided that the attic was the best place for an old 16mm film he had picked up in a junk shop. The cinema fan had no idea that what he had picked up in the bargain bin was an acclaimed horror movie that had been missing for more than 50 years. The company that made the adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s story The Tell-Tale Heart ...had almost given up hope of seeing it again after all copies were thought to have been destroyed. The 20-minute film, starring Stanley Baker, was well received on its release in 1953 but hopes of finding an intact copy seemed distant until Mr Wells, 65, decided to clear out his attic. He had been working as a nurse in Brighton when he found the reel in 1984 in the junk shop. He took it with him when he moved to Drummore, near Stranraer in Dumfries and Galloway, in 2002, and kept the reel in his attic until October last year, when he had a clear-out and decided to sell it on eBay for £5. On doing further re- search, however, he discovered that it was a rare, possibly unique, copy that was sought by Adelphi Films, the com- pany that made it. The British Film Institute, where the Stanley Baker is the sole actor in the film, discovered by Jeff Wells, left film has been restored and digitised so it can be viewed online, has described it as a lost gem

Stanley Baker in 'The Tell-Tale Heart'

Its been quite a week with the fabulous press launch of our 'lost' film 'The Tell-Tale Heart' starring Stanley Baker. The story has been covered by The Times, The Mail, The Scotsman, The Herald, the Independent online, The Metro and the Sunday Times so far, and jeff and i have done several radio interviews! You can watch it for free on the BFIplayer for 2 weeks - then its subscription. Its a fabulous film - only 20 minutes long but dark gothic spooky noir and the only actor is the wonderful Stanley Baker. It will be screened at the NT Dorfman theatre on December 17th. I'm so grateful to Jeff Wells and his partner Michael for providing the 16mm copy as the film had been missing thought lost for over 50 years.

The wonderful Dennis Nordon has died. He co scripted our film 'Song of Paris' with the also wonderful Frank Muir and others. The film was directed by John Guillermin and stars Dennis Price. Its a lovely film - a light comedy romance and Dennis price - the stalwart Brit = gets the better of the dastardly foreigners and wins the lady's heart.

We are sad to tell you that our dear friend Bill Allan has passed away. Bill was a Director of Adelphi and had been ever since I took it over in 2006. Bill was a very wonderful person - kind, generous, funny, wise and had huge experience and knowledge of the industry from a lifetime of working in theatre, film and television. He will be very much missed by myself and Richard and by many others. Our hearts go out to Bill's family. He enriched all our lives in so many ways and we will never forget him.

Richard and Kate had a wonderful night out with friend Christopher at Abbey Road studios last week. A VIP event with a fascinating talk about the history of the studios. Visitors cannot usually go inside because its a working studios so this was pretty special. The speakers used some of Richard's footage of Cilla Black singing 'Alfie'. Great stuff and thanks to Richard for arranging it.

Massimo Morretti from StudioCanal visited the Adelphi archive a few days ago. StudioCanal owns the back catalogue of the Associated British Picture Corporation and British International Pictures where my grandfather Arthur Dent was Director before he established Adelphi. Massimo is very knowledgeable about the history of ABPC and BIP and its products and is also a lovely person, it was an excellent visit and we both learned a lot.

Richard and Kate got scrubbed up for the Focal awards ceremony last week. Awards were for best archive footage in various categories of documentaries. A great night out at the Troxy on the Commercial road.

Today would have been Spike Milligan's 100th birthday. And here he is in his debut film 'Penny Point to Paradise' which was also the debut of the The Goons on the big screen before the radio show was aired. He was such a really great character we miss you Spike.
