MS Prinsendam Cruise Ship arrived at a cloudy & damp Greencastle early this morning. Prinsendam is 205m long, weighs 39,051t, built in 1988 and is registered in the Netherlands. It has 9 passenger decks and can carry approx 800 passengers and approx 450 crew. We believe it to be the biggest Cruise Ship to visit Greencastle.
Interesting fact - In 2012, it was en route to Portugal, when it received a distress call from a fishing boat with eight crew aboard. When the ship arriv...ed, the crew had entered a life raft. The Coast Guard directed Prinsendam to pick up the fishermen and wait for a helicopter to take the fishermen to shore.

A night with the stars at Benone beach, watching for Comets and observing the constellations.
A night of learning more about the sky at night with thanks to a good friend Martin McKenna of Nightskyhunter for bringing their large & heavy telescope and for the schooling on the night sky. Never too old or young to learn something new, just a bit of effort needed!

Cruise Ship Star Breeze arrived at Portrush this morning at 0730.
Star Breeze is 135m long, built in 1989, registered in the Bahamas and is operated by Windstar Cruises. It has 4 passenger decks and can carry 208 passengers & 164 crew.
... A warm welcome to the North Coast, however do not rush down to see the Star Breeze as it did not stay long and left for the Isle Of Man around 0900. We don't know why though!
Interesting fact: It was renamed Star Breeze in 2015 from it's previous name Seabourn Spirit

Cruise Ship MS Astor is making a visit to Greencastle, County Donegal this morning.
It arrived in dull & grey conditions, but the weather guru's have said it will brighten up through the morning. We extend a warm welcome to all it's Passengers & Crew.
MS Astor is 176m long, built in 1987, registered in the Bahamas and is operated by TransOcean Kreuzfahrten based in Germany.
... Interesting fact: In 2008 the Astor was cruising in the Gulf of Oman, when pirates tried to board her, but were chased off by a German Frigate operating in the area.

Portrush's East Strand played host to the We Deserve Better North Coast Campaign this evening at 7pm. A damp evening did not deter nor dampen the crowds from attending to show their frustration at the current political impasse.
Lots of placards and banners on show to support people's anger at the state of our country, with local speakers emphasizing that those elected need to listen to those who voted for them and that our services are on their knees.
... Democratic Unionist Party Sinn Féin Ireland Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) Alliance Party of Northern Ireland Ulster Unionist Party etc......
