About Alec Hunter Academy

Alec Hunter Academy is a secondary school with academy status located in East Braintree, Essex, England.

Alec Hunter Academy Description

At Alec Hunter Academy, we pride ourselves on the positive relationships we engender between our young people and the adults who work with them on a day-to-day basis. We believe that students learn best when they feel valued and when the expectations of them are high.
We anticipate that our learners will attend school with a positive attitude to learning, that they will embrace challenge where they encounter it and will be enthusiastic, resourceful, adaptable and resilient.
We hope that our young people will leave Alec Hunter with happy memories, having enjoyed a range of experiences that have prepared them for the next phase of their education and for their adult lives.
I hope that this website gives you a snapshot of the life and work of the school and that you are able to access any information that you need. However, if you are a parent seeking admission, a job applicant or a member of our school community and you are not able to locate the details you require, please give our friendly office staff a call on 01376 321813 and we will be delighted to help.

We wanted to share a really great video with you on why it is important to read aloud to students, even at secondary!.
A recent reading survey completed by some of our students had a common theme that they would read more if they could find a book that is exciting and interesting.
However as this Ted talk suggests, students can often be held back from "getting into" a book because they are focusing on decoding or translating the words they are reading, and miss out on the m...eaning and can't take in the story, so they may never deem a book 'exciting' or 'interesting'.
Another way we can help students become more interested in reading is if we talk about books and try to recommend books to students.

Writing Instruments are simple tools that we use on a daily basis, whether it be at home, school or work. Thanks to Terracycle & BIC®, it is easy to recycle them for free, which helps to protect the environment.
Alec Hunter Academy has been accepted as a collection centre for used writing equipment and we are also a drop off location for the local community.
Once collected, the writing instruments are separated by material composition, cleaned and melted into hard plastic th...at can be remoulded to make new recycled products.
So please do bring in your old used and broken writing equipment to Alec Hunter so we can send them off to be recycled.

The whole town out in force today to pay their respects to the fallen at this special centenary Remembrance Parade. Head Boy Frank Carroll and Head Girl Emily Windle laid 2 wreaths on behalf of all at AHA and it was great to see many other students in attendance. #ArmisticeDay100
