speaking of care workers being more highly valued by society... "I do not save lives but I sure as hell make them easier for someone to live" Great little video from Beth Sturgis on the importance of her work, and why she is sticking with her job despite being able to make more money stacking shelves in a supermarket. https://www.bbc.co.uk/…/…/carers-not- glorified-bottom-wipers

The fastest growing demographic in the UK is people over 85, whose numbers are projected to more than double by 2035, increasing by 1.5 million. I wonder if this means care workers will be more highly valued by society?

“[He wanted] to have his dog and cat beside him, among his family, when he was dying. This document guided a highly complex episode of in-patient care in the last months of his life…. Despite the gravity of his condition, he got his wish to die at home. That early planning was key.”
Former palliative care consultant Kathryn Mannix talks about her experience of advance care plans and how talking about death can improve the lives of patients.

So... I for one didn't know this was happening in the Netherlands. She seems very well prepared and has planned ahead. It seems so young, but I have no idea what she's been going though. I suppose only she knows that... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-451171 63

An amazing piece. Sacha Langton-Gilks talks about how she managed to give her own son a good death.
"You need to plan ahead, just as you do when planning a birth. The planning brought reassurance and a sense of control in place of panic and fear" .... and... "This is an excruciating process, but it means you can prepare emotionally and practically."
If you want to make your own advance care plan, you can at amberplans.com - or you can press the button below. It's free.

Really pleased with how many people are signing up to make a care plan. Based on our sign ups and the reasons given for signing up, it seems like a lot of nurses realise the value of having a plan! They've seen it all...

Can an app that reminds me I'm going to die really make me happier? https://inews.co.uk/inews-lifest…/…/a pp-mortality-happiness/

“We have to think of the present moment as inclusive of the past and the future… When you remember your mother in the present, she is present with you.”
Amanda Blainey from Doing death in a fascinating conversation with Frank Osteseski - author of “The Five Invitations” about what he has learned from working with the dying and what that can teach us about living.
They talk about how best to help the dying, being aware of their breath and rituals like bathing the body after ...death of our loved one’s at the end.

Quality more important than quantity but the video gets to that towards the end. Blue Zones are interesting. While the video piece doesn't go into what blue zones are in detail there is more info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Zone
