The Town Council would like to thank Serco for kindly sponsoring the new cherry trees that have been 'planted' in Sycamore Road. Robert Watson and Guy Baber (pictured) have been wonderful supporters of the Town Council over a number of years. Their support this week has been unbelievable- Thanks chaps! Thanks also to the Amersham Action Group for helping the Town Council to fund the lovely wooden planters. We very much hope that we can raise the funds to purchase an additional five which will enable us to complete phase two and 'finish' the street.

The Town Council would like to say a huge thank the bloom volunteers, 1st Chesham Bois Scout Leaders, Serco and of course our very own staff for the mammoth effort over the past couple of months. Today we were judged for a RHS Regional Thames and Chilterns in Bloom Award. We can now pause (just over the weekend!), take a deep breath and prepare ourselves for National Judging which takes place on Wednesday 31 July.

A huge thank you to Pete Thompson who kindly undertook a butterfly survey (count) in the newly created extension of Willow Wood last Friday. With butterflies in abundance, at this wonderful location, it was no surprise that 12 different species (including two moths) were identified (number of butterflies in brackets).

A wonderful afternoon at St Georges CofE Infant School helping Year 2 pupils to plant the school's pots and troughs.

A fantastic evening with the 2nd Amersham Common Scouts on Friday at Willow Wood. In addition to squeezing in a tree survey we also built two bug mansions. A great way to spend (almost) mid summers day!

Last but not least- congratulations to Charlie Prichard from St Georges CofE Infant School for his winning design in the School's Flowerbed Competition, which he helped to plant out earlier this week. A brilliant design which will make a great addition to the Boot and Slipper Roundabout- well done Charlie.

The bed of poppies in the Memorial Gardens is looking absolutely stunning and will get even better over the next week. Be sure to take a look if you are in Old Amersham- you will not be disappointed- it is stunning. šŸ’šŸ“ø.

Noticed the new additions in Sycamore Road? Yesterday, we installed ten wooden planters along the stretch of Sycamore Road between Woodside Road to Waitrose. These new planters, complete with cherry trees (prunus Sunset boulevard) form part of our endeavours to improve Amersham-on-the-Hill. A huge thank you to the Amersham Action Group for helping to fund the wonderful hardwood planters and to Serco Amersham for kindly sponsoring the trees. Without such support we would not be able to carryout these improvements.

With the wonderful assistance of pupils from Elangeni School, Woodside Junior School and St Mary's CofE Primary School we have over the past week planted three of the four raised signature flowerbeds around town. Huge congratulations to Shamika Botenne, Patience Williams - Holmes and Esme O'Driscoll who with a few of their peers, helped to plant out their winning designs. In total 356 entries were received from all junior/primary schools within Amersham. Special thanks to Barnett Waddingham who have once again sponsored this ever popular competition. You support is much appreciated.

Wow.....! So much has been achieved over the past two days with the summer bedding display in the Memorial Gardens all complete. This year we have planted a mixture of green coleus in the central beds, red coleus in the two beds around the pond and mixed geraniums in the D bed. What a transformation and what a display it is going to be! We even managed to replant the deck of HMS Dreadnought. Our sincere thanks to all involved. More on the 2019 centrepiece tomorrow or Monday!!

Can you lend a hand? Over the past few weeks, we have been busy planting flowers beneath many of the road signs throughout town. With Amersham now synonymous with these wonderful additions we have added a few extra plants in each in the hope of creating an even better display than in previous years. However, we are really struggling to keep these flowers alive due to the dry conditions. If you live close to one of the planted signs we would be extremely grateful if you would help us out by giving the plants a can of water whenever possible, most notably while the plants are so young. A huge thank you to Aston Hearing Services Ltd who have sponsored the flowers that we have planted (1500 to date) this year. Your support is much appreciated.

The sea of red poppies in the bed on the verge beside Ambers of Amersham is looking beautiful on this gorgeous spring day. The Town Council have sown 20% more wildflowers, when compared to 2018, throughout Amersham this year, so we should see some wonderful displays this summer. Wildflower beds are still being sown so please do not be alarmed if you see the odd wildflower being removed- this is all part of the preparation for new displays.

After many years of planning six red kites have finally made it to the roundabout at the bottom of Stanley Hill. We hope that you agree that they make a wonderful edition to the roundabout. A huge thank you for the Town Council Depot Staff for installing the kites, Cllr Isobel Darby, Buckinghamshire County Council for the permission and to the James Phillips Foundation for commissioning the structure. We are pleased to report that Buckinghamshire County Council has advised the Town Council that the damaged signs on the roundabout are to be replaced imminently.
