Hello Everyone.
This week Cinema Paradiso returns to the Italian Classics for its 6th installment welcoming you to its screening of Bernando Bertolluci's noir classic, The Conformist.
... Described as the movie that had plugged, "postwar Italian cinema firmly and directly into the emerging 1970s renaissance in Hollywood film-making" The Conformist gives an account of a would-be fascist (Jean-Louis Trintignant) who, aching to fit in in 1938 Rome, finds himself in Paris tasked with quietening the anti-fascist voice of his now dissident former college professor.
A socio-political thriller rich in stylistic and structural sophistication, it is a bleak vision of human motivation that explores the neuroses and self- loathing of the right-wing psyche often being cited as a major influence on considerable subsequent works such as The Godfather, The Sopranos and Apocalypse Now.
Cinema Paradiso welcomes you to join us for another evening of fine- dining art- house cinema...
Customary Discussion to take place post- screening. Be there or be Square
Free Entry Screening Starts at 830pm

After last week's slightly traumatic viewing of the freaky British classic Don't Look Now. Cinema Paradiso shifts to a lighter tone for its 5th installment for Wednesday's presentation of Wong Kar-wai's stylish love drama In the Mood for Love.
Set in Hong Kong, 1962: Chow Mo-wan (Tony Leung Chiu-wai) and wife Su Li-zhen (Maggie Cheung Man-yuk) move into neighbouring apartments on the same day. Their encounters are formal and polite—until a mutual discovery brings them closer... together..
At once delicately mannered and visually extravagant, Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love is a masterful evocation of romantic longing and fleeting moments. With its aching musical soundtrack and exquisitely abstract cinematography by Christopher Doyle and Mark Lee Ping-bin, this film has secured a place in the cinematic canon, and is a milestone in Wong’s redoubtable career....
Largely considered one of the most beautiful love films ever shot The Cinema Paradiso Team welcome both Seasoned regulars and newcomers for a spot of high brow Asian entertainment..

After our first three presentations which offered some of the finest cinema from overseas including Fellini's mind-blowing 8 and 1/2 and Wajda's spectacular Ashes and Diamonds, this Thursday evening Cinema Paradiso is back for its fourth installment with a screening of Nicolas Roeg's, "Don't Look Now" a 1970s British Classic.
Based on a story by Daphne du Maurier, whose works inspired Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca and The Birds, the film centres on Laura and John Baxter (Donald ...Sutherland and Julie Christie), who have recently relocated to Venice so that John can oversee the architectural restoration of an old church. Both hope that the change of environment will allow them to forget the recent tragic demise of their child, but they instead find themselves surrounded by reminders of death, as the city attempts to deal with a series of unexplained murders.
Don't Look Now's reputation has grown in the years since its release being considered a seminal work in occult horror and one of the best British films of all time.
We welcome both Philistine newbies and seasoned cinephilic regulars to attend a spooky evening of cinematic suspense..

Hello everyone. Following on from our screenings of Andrzej Wajda's Ashes and Diamond and Jean Renoir's Le Fleuve Cinema Paradiso are excited to announce a presentation of Federico Fellini's masterpiece 8½
The movie stars Mastroianni, always Fellini's alter ego, as Guido, a director who has had a big hit and now seeks to recover from it at a health spa. But he is hounded there and everywhere by those who depend on him - his producer, his writer, his mistress, his would-be st...ars. The producer has spent a fortune to build a gigantic set of a rocket ship, but Guido has a secret: He doesn't have a clue what his next movie will be about.
The movie proceeds as a series of encounters between Guido and his conscience. He remembers his childhood, his strict parents, his youthful fascination with a tawdry woman who lived down by the beach.
His mistress (Sandra Milo) follows him to the spa, and then his chain-smoking, intellectual wife (Anouk Aimee) follows, and is enraged at him - as much for his bad taste in women as for his infidelity.
Then follows one of the most famous sequences in all of modern films: In his daydreams, Guido occupies a house with all of the women in his life, past and present, and they all love him and forgive him, and love one another. But then there is a revolt, and he cracks a whip, trying to tame them. Of course he cannot.
The movie is the portrait of a man desperately trying to weld together the carnal and spiritual sides of his nature; the mistress and the wife, the artistic and the commercial. From time to time a muse appears to him: a seductive, calm, smiling dream woman (Claudia Cardinale). She offers him the tantalising possibility that all will be forgiven, and all will be well. But she is elusive and ethereal, and meanwhile the producer is growing desperate.
Often considered to be Fellini's magnus opus, come and join us for Wedneday's pre- valentine screening of an Italian masterpiece.

The music is always good. Nice outdoor area. An improbably big menu, but I've never seen anyone eat there. It's got a great vibe. Used to be called 'The Volunteer'; I like the old sign at the side of the building.

Such a great local. Foods great. Landlord and staff are so accommodating. We had a party there and they couldn't do enough for us. Highly recommend

Pretty much the only business I've ever liked on Facebook and meant it (eg not as a competition entry)

I love this place. Best bar west of shuttleworths. Haven't been in a while, must do, glad it's still going strong by the looks of it. Amazing food, lovely landlord, lockins , Greek versions of the red flag, music, magazines everywhere, what's not to like?

Great pub with nice people for a few drinks where feel like in own home*****

User

Great atmosphere, great music, and amazing food! A characterful place that feels like home, and a strong point of difference to the anonymous chain pubs that are taking over everywhere. A real hidden gem in west London!

Cracking little place for a chilled out lunch. A decent enough pint but the linguine putansesca I had today was simply outstanding. There aren't enough quirky places like this in the world.
