Our History Group has rediscovered the names and addresses of hundreds of members of the Arlington Baths who served in the First World War.
See where they lived in Glasgow and beyond, the years they served, and when the Club received news of their deaths in our interactive map. https://arlingtonbathshistory.wordpress.c om/…/mapping-the-…/

Morning everyone. Our founding members would have woken up to these views of Woodlands in the 1860/70’s

Love this year’s cards by member Marion Gardyne. Inspired by our Turkish Suite and blank inside, they’re ideal for any occasion and raise money for our restoration fund. Available from the Poolside Office.

this is a great community not for profit club in a wonderful city centre neighbourhood and its only been doing this for 147 years !

User

The Arlington is a beautiful quiet and calm place for excise and wellbeing. It is diverse and inclusive. In The Arlington there is room for people of all fitness levels, and the atmosphere is always very friendly. I have been a member for many years and I love it.

The Arlington Baths Club is unique, historical and beautiful. It's a wonderful asset to Glasgow's West End. It not only provides something very different for keen swimmers and those wishing to learn to swim but offers a range of facilities and services including a state of the art gym, a trapeze and classes such as Yoga and Tai Chi. The not-for-profit management of the Club have not only committed themselves to the upkeep of this fabulous building, which first opened its doors in 1871, – they have continued to upgrade and add to facilities combining the modern and historic. Members can now choose whether to relax in the members' lounge and make use of the Wifi or or indulge yourself in the 'serene Victorian Turkish Suite'.

The Arlington Baths Club makes a perfect venue for a variety of community events and last Autumn had a successful programme during Book Week Scotland. Currently you can see an exhibition of beautiful art work by Marion Gardyne.

User

Outstanding place, a real rarity these days in terms of service and facilities offered

User

One of my favourite places in Glasgow! I’ve been a member for over five years and am still blown away by the building on every visit. Great facilities, from the stunning Turkish baths to the monkey rings. Highly recommend if you’re looking for an alternative to your sh*te high-street branded gym.

My 3 youngest kids have been taking lessons with the William Young Swim School (independent) here for more than 2 years. Not only are the Arlington's facilities and staff lovely, but the William Young Swim School is absolutely top-notch, wonderful instructors with the highest professional standards.

User

Lovely friendly WARM oasis on miserable winter days :)

User

Love being a member of the Arlington. The Turkish sauna is a beautiful little sanctuary in the city, and the gym is fab. Not too busy and brill new machines recently installed. Really happy that the weekend opening hours have been extended too

User

The club has evolved through the years and with the sympathetic approach to upgrading the club I can see how it will olny get better with the love care and dedication of the management, Staff and the Clubs members. Heres to another 16 years to come and many more : ) Great Job Arlington

User

I have been a member of the Arlington for 3 years and I can honestly say that it now forms an integral part of my life. Lovely pool, great staff! One of Glasgow's little hidden gems.

User

I have been a member for quite a few years now and I appreciate the Arlington more and more with every passing year. It really is a club, members like talk to one another! On my first visit, I met the "old guys" in what was known as the one o'clock club. I was asked if any one in my family had ever been a member. I said my grandfather had been a young member before WW1. "We were here then, what was his name?" So I told them. "John *****? Remember him well, didn't like him a bit!" Then I noticed their twinkling eyes and they all started laughing. From that day on (even though I was at least two generations too young to be an official member) I became an honorary member of the one o'clock club and shared many a laugh with them. It was strange meeting people who knew my grandfather as he had died before I was born. Like him I am now part of the Arlington family. Oh, and the Arlington has great facilities as well!

User

I am a brand new member and am yet to try out all the facilities at the club but so far I love going to the Arlington. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and I have had some very interesting conversations in the sauna!

User

Friendly, fab staff, lovely atmosphere in general and really great gym and swimming pool but my favourite is the Turkish room, wow.

User

Fantastic kids Christmas party at the baths to really get us in the festive spirit!

User

Fantastic facilities. Terrific staff. And bags of history to boot.

User

Arlington Baths is a great club with a 21 metre swimming pool and a fully equipped modern gym.

Where else do you get a fresh towel supplied on arrival?

The William Young swim school is an asset to the club where you can learn how to swim or improve your technique. My wife and daughter were so appreciative when they both learned to tumble turn very quickly with William.

User

Amazing experience at the Arlington Baths. Really friendly and professional staff and one of calmest hidden gems within Glasgow. I was also impressed with the additional classes available for members and non-members including William Young swim school who my kids have had a great swimming and learning experience.

User

A wonderful Glasgow institution. Have been a member for nearly 20 years and love it. All the facilities provide relaxation and calm away from the stress of daily life. I have made many good friends here and it is a great sanctuary. In addition, I brought my daughter here as a baby, and she is now learning to swim with the brilliant William Young Swim School, which she loves. William is her main teacher and he has a great rapport with her. His kind and gentle manner and professional and effective teaching methods are an asset to the Arlington.
