For the 5th year we have been awarded a Community Green Flag. We obtained once again the highest possible marking band and the judges comments in short were simply to keep up the good work. Many thanks to all our dedicated gardening volunteers who have helped make Arlington Square such a beautiful community resource.

The flowers on Arlington Square's Trachycarpus Fortunei are going to be magnificent this year. This palm is a genus of hardy Palm trees that were introduced into the UK by Robert Fortune in 1849 which was when the houses on Arlington Square were built. It is native to Central China, Burma and India and won the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2002.

Echium pininana's have self seeded in Arlington Square, also called tree echium, pine echium and giant viper's-bugloss, it is a species of flowering plant in the borage family Boraginaceae. It is endemic to the Canary Islands, where it is restricted to the island of La Palma. It is normaly only cultivated in gardens of Britain and Ireland, it has naturalized along the northern California coast and clearly it likes the conditions in Arlington Sqaure. Its native habitat is laurel forests, where it is now endangered through habitat loss. These plants die after they flower but cast many seeds, they are not very hardy and a prolonged frost will kill them. Bees and insects love them, enjoy!

Thanks to the generosity of neighbours the Arlington Square Christmas Fair raised £1000 to support our nominated local good cause, Pack-up. This donation will help secure the ongoing good work and support that Pack-up provides every Monday lunchtime to the needy and the local street community. Additionally, there was a tremendous response to the appeal for donations for their Christmas gift packs and for items they use on a weekly basis.
Once again many thanks to everyone w...ho helped make our annual Christmas Fair such a success.
On behalf of the Arlington Association please accept our sincere thanks to everyone who has helped throughout 2018 in so many ways be it community gardening, volunteering at the Summer Fete, distributing The Arlingtonian, donating raffle prizes, etc.
Best wishes for the festive season be it spent in Arlingtonia or further afield.
