. - Elaine Wilson - Corps-A-Corps- . Private View 8th November... . Shown here:- ‘Don’t Touch’ Fired clay, glaze, decals and lustre . Wilson explores themes around body, vigilance, combat, the gendered vision of power and control. She describes her Eye-to-Claw-to Beak series as watchtowers sourced from different cultures around the world…with strategically placed viewing slots to enable constant surveillance over a 360 degree radius. These works as objects endowed with the capacity for watching become symbolic totems of control, not unlike our CCTV-society where watching gives knowledge and knowledge is power but we wonder what might be done with that. With form so closely following function, Elaine’s omniscient watchtowers radiate with sinister desire.
Open until 2nd December 2018

… ARTISTS TALK ... 27th October 3pm-5pm - Gabriela Schutz, Jane Boyer and guest speaker David Evans, Head of Exhibitions at The Fitzwilliam Museum discuss 'time and the museum' in relation to lookback@now.
... The virtual world is a compressed space, meaning past, present, the real and unreal exist, overlapping each other, at the same time. Art museums are like this too in a way; many different times can sit next to each other in proximity, but how ‘real’ are the things we see in their galleries? Much of what is captured in art is an ideal; a perfection that doesn’t, and didn’t, exist. Does this representative ideal alter how we perceive time through the artworks?
Shown here: Connected 2017. Original from clay, and 9 x casts of plaster, H 32cm x W 11cm x D 8cm each

Wonderful venue both to exhibit and view work.

User

Welcoming and knowledgeable, we were taken into this beautiful house and shown works by the 2 artists. Space to wander but always with the option of asking questions or making a point.

User

Lovely, friendly gallery in a beautiful home with a really interesting range of work. Highly recommended.
