Our A&E is very busy at the moment so think carefully about what treatment you need before coming to us. Sometimes your GP, Pharmacist, walk-in centre or dialling 111 is a far better option. If you have a life-threatening condition please call 999 #helpushelpyou

The latest message from our Chief Executive @SuzRankin focuses on a very special & important topic-death. This was inspired by work we‚Äôre currently undertaking at ASPH to learn from deaths but also by the @BBCRadio4 series ‚Äòwe need to talk about death‚Äô http://www.ashfordstpeters.nhs.uk/‚Ķ/m‚Ä ¶/2255-discussing-death

Week ending Friday 15th March 2019 A message to all staff from Suzanne Rankin, Chief Executive
Welcome to my message this week. Now, this is a slightly different approach as we are trying something a little different, a podcast!
... With the idea that for those of you who can’t always get to a computer to read my messages, you can listen on your mobile device at your convenience. We have of course transcribed (http://trustnet/news/cebulletin15-03-19. htmlthis) message too so those of you who like the written format can still access it.
So this week, I wanted to speak to you about the recently published staff survey results. We had a great response this year which is so very important so that we hear your feedback and understand where to support improvements and celebrate achievements together.
So please have a listen either on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0vQ1iNa XcI) or through TrustNet (http://trustnet/news/cebulletin15-03-19. html) and do let us know whether you like the podcast format and in the meantime have a fabulous weekend.
With very best wishes,
Suzanne Rankin Chief Executive

The 3rd Annual MSK Event for ASPH Surrey iMKS services was held yesterday here at ASPH in Chertsey House
The MSK Annual Event is the day each year all of the multidisciplinary teams come together to celebrate the ongoing success of their cultural transformational change programme. Included is their annual training in the Biopsychosocial (BPS) model of care that fundamentally underpins the ethos of the MSK care model here in ASPH, and across the NWS CCG patients as a whole. T...he BPS model engages and acknowledges the patient, and what matters to them, at the heart of every decision we make.
The iMSK team have embarked on transforming the function of all clinical and operational models in order that we provide the most effective, high-quality care for our patients and our staff. The day outlined how the change programme is focused on ‘integration’ of the iMSK ‘system’ and emphasised the importance of the way we cooperate and collaborate across the services. The MSK Annual Event was attended by 132 members of the MSK teams and included 39 MSK Physiotherapists, 4 MSK Occupational Therapists, 22 MSK/T&O Surgeons, 5 MSK Radiologists, 14 Nurses, 5 MSK Operational Managers, 3 local GP’s and 37 Administration Staff who are the backbone of our services.
The event consisted of our operational and clinical leads talking through the successes and the progress of their sub-speciality care pathways and the plans and vision for the upcoming year. The room felt energised and engaged and the overall feeling was that this event brought the bigger team together to improve understanding of the wider iMSK agenda and give thanks to all of the MSK staff for their support and hard work. We are looking forward to the coming year and believe we can go from strength to strength.

“My name is Mark Mallari. I arrived in the UK in 2006, to join my wife, who is a senior theatre nurse here in St. Peter's hospital. I started working in the medical field in August 2006 as a Health Care Assistant (HCA), in Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) which just opened during that time.
In the beginning, I had a bit of difficulty adjusting because back in the Philippines I was a Mechanical Engineer. Luckily, I have good colleagues that helped me and thought me how to do thi...ngs properly. As days go by, I enjoyed doing the job because every day there is a feeling of self-fulfilment, in helping other people feel better in my own way. But I did not stop there because I felt that I can do better and be able to help more people.
In December 2007, I moved to the Imaging Department as a Radiographer Department Assistant (RDA). During my appraisal, I told my supervisor that I want to study again if given a chance. Then in September 2009, I was given the opportunity to study to become a Radiographer. I did it part-time, working and studying at the same time for three and a half years.
In 2013 I became a radiographer, I applied and got a job in Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospital. After completing all the training, in all areas in the department. I applied for a senior post as an A&E senior radiographer to cover for a colleague who went for a sabbatical leave. Then a year after I applied and became the Quality Assurance Senior Radiographer in our department. Last year after an interview, I was promoted to Deputy Superintendent Radiographer looking after the General Imaging Department, A&E X-ray and Rowley Bristow Unit X-ray.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Imaging Department of ASPH for giving me this opportunity, to grow as professionally and also to help other people in my own little way. Lastly, I want to leave you all a quote “Within our dreams and aspirations we find our opportunities” …Sugar Ray Leonard.”

National Apprenticeship Week
“Hi, my name is Imogen Le Brasse and I am the Learning and Development Apprentice. I joined the trust in July 2018, having achieved a Distinction Grade in a Level 3 Business Admin at Woking College. I am now completing my Level 4 Business Admin through the Apprenticeship Scheme.
The main duties to my role include booking staff members on training, helping to facilitate the smooth running of the Trusts monthly induction for New Starters and upda...ting Staff members Mandatory training records on ESR, so I have probably spoken to many of you on the Telephone.
At first I was unsure about the apprenticeship due to the work load but with the support from my team I can say I have really enjoyed the apprenticeship and recognise this great opportunity. Not only will I achieve a qualification at the end of this apprenticeship, I have also gained confidence and skills that will help me in the future that I would not have necessarily achieved at Uni.
I have been given many opportunities during my short time with ASPH, such as ‘day in their shoes’ where I spent the day in Theatres where I came away from the day possibly considering a career in theatres and completing further studies via the apprenticeship levy.
From leaving college, not knowing what I would like to do in the future, through this apprenticeship I now have an idea, of my future career path.
Although challenging at times, like many training courses, I would definitely recommend the journey that I have experienced to anyone considering in undertaking an apprenticeship. I’m looking forward to completing my qualification, debt free with no university studies to pay for, and earning a salary whilst I have been learning !”

National Apprenticeship Week
Head Of Performance
“Learning on the job allows for more vivid gains in information and understanding. There are not many opportunities for this as the one provided by the apprentice programme through which I am going through some hard but meaningful work towards gaining an MBA in Leadership. It is demanding, though the rewards are already coming through as I am beginning to broaden my considerations, and learning others’ possible points of view on matters ASPH. The well-structured programmes are also very valuable as they equip students with knowledge and skills beyond their current spheres of influence. I have just started but am feeling it is a very much worthwhile opportunity.” Zviko Kangara

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Karen and Liz from your incredible homebirth team. The support they gave my sister and her partner through her birth early hours of Saturday was just amazing. They were both so gentle, women centred and Liz’s humour was infectious and my sister loved them both. Midwives and Doula together, we made a great team:) my sister and brother in law were so happy with your support and care and so grateful you were part of their very positive birth experience. I hope you had a restful day yesterday. Many thanks x

Me and my family where privalledge to be invited to the first memorial service held at St Peter's hospital today for family that have lost a loved one in the trust. It was a wonderful sentiment and great care was taking in organising the event. We would like to thank all the team involved and greatly appreciate the care my mum had in the last days of her life. Claire, Jayne and the rest of the palliative care team where amazing. Also Darren, Sarah, Daniella, Rebecca and the rest of the nursing team on Swan ward showed such sympathy and grace when caring for mum. You are all a true credit to St Peter's and the NHS. Absolutely faultless service at Ashford Hospital recently at the day surgery unit. A student midwife on a placement held my hand and comforted me throughout the entire process as well as another nurse who was so empathetic and supportive. The entire unit was amazing I could not thank you enough, not to mention my surgeon. Thank you so much for everything and I it’s looking likely that I will be back for more surgery soon. You’ve made a scary experience manageable - thank you

User

very poor experience of A&E - long wait time , necessary samples not taken , GP letter requesting scan not heeded for 2 hours, medic discussing other patients whilst we were with him, needing help to locate features on scan, failure to communicate with surgical team effectively needing prompts and evacuation from one building to another in the rain undertaken by patients at 9pm as a regular procedure(including those on mobile drips, those hopping for lack of wheelchair and those short of breathe)A total of 4 hours spent (car park cost £5) and the a promise that surgical team would be in contaqct next morning which didn't materialise. Sent home on painkillers for the night and now awaiting surgery in another spill over ward which is probably not going to happen today as yet again last night hospital were on high al;ert status admitting people they had few beds for...they system is inadequate and the staff are under stress which results in dignostic errors and poor communication
