About Aspiring Minds

At Aspiring Minds, our main objective is to empower the local Muslim community through education.

Aspiring Minds Description

At Aspiring Minds, our main objective is to empower the local Muslim community through education. To achieve this goal we are building an institution that allows for the progression and development of our students, teachers and volunteers who will be working closely with one another.

Our syllabus will contain a range of core subjects such as Mathematics, English and Science as well as incorporating spiritual development; thus they will reap the benefits of excelling in both their studies as well as their religion.

Additionally, we will also be inviting students from prestigious London universities to spend time with the younger students to act as mentors and produce a realistic view on life as a student and what is required to achieve your goals.

To symbolise the coming of the end of the academic year, students were informed they would be sitting a test. For academic studies, the traditional method of examination is a written test; a list of questions which students respond to with their written answers. Here at Aspiring Minds, we decided to test our students differently.
During tarbeeyyah, students came in expecting a traditional test, only to be placed into groups. They were assigned relevant topics from what we ha...d covered so far this year. Under timed limits they had to work together to plan and then teach the rest of the class their relevant topic. This allowed the teacher to evaluate their memorisation as well as understanding.
Students were then informed they would have to act out a matter followed by possible solutions and remedies. This allowed the teacher to understand students' practical understanding of a topic, specifically with topics which are delivered in theory, but need practical implementation to come to life e.g. diseases of the heart.
To encourage developing their wider competencies, our success criteria also looked at their ability to work as a team, their delivery and communication skills (public speaking), answering questions on the spot, and their time management.

Action Points - Raising a Child with a Mission
"Naturally, any good parent should be the first role model for their kids. It is your duty to mentor these kids through every stage of their life (as children). However, children may decide to choose other role models as they advance in life. It could be their teacher, Imam, siblings, or a distant personality like the sahabas, may Allah be pleased with them. We can do this by familiarizing them with the stories of the past prophets and the prophet’s companions, and nurturing in them love for the sahabas from a tender age.
There are numerous benefits attached to bringing up children with a mission..."

Week 13 - From Poplar to Oxford
We had the pleasure of hosting Tahmidur Rahman, a first year Oxford University student, for our C&L session.
Tahmid, originally from East London, studies Chemistry at one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Unlike many of his peers, who studied at private and grammar schools, his humble beginnings start at a state school in Tower Hamlets called Stepney Green, where only 53% of students in his year group passed 5 GCSEs.
... His story of how he made it to Oxford, against all odds, through the power of Dua, dedication, and hard work inspired us and our students alike. He shared many points of benefit including the importance of having lofty aspirations.
Furthermore, he touched upon the rigorous application process, from its early stages to the final interviews.
Our students were left intrigued and amazed by life at Oxford uni as Tahmid also shared a few anecdotes about student life there.
We pray that Allah grants him success in both worlds, Ameen!

*Knowing Allah* can prevent a person from destroying themselves when they are in the pits of darkness. When you know Allah is Just, you will not seek ultimate justice from anyone. When you know He is the Most Compassinate and Gentle, you will be more willing to make excuses for His creation, even the most beloved of them to you, when they fall short in compassion. When you know He is al-Barr - you will know that all Good emanates from Him so you will never attribute any accom...plishment to your self. When you know He is Responsive and al-Shafee', you will never rely on the most reliable and intelligent of His creation to remove your afflictions.
"Whoever knows the Beauitful Names and Attributes of Allah with their meanings, while believing in them, will have a more complete eman than the one who does not know them but just believes in them in general." - Ibn Taymiyyah (rh)

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Please regulate your child's use of devices. We are trying to build proactive leaders who have meaningful relationships with you at home. Please help us.
Yours sincerely,... Teachers who want to make a change beyond the classroom.
"It is hardly surprising that the iconic founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, along with a number of other tech CEOs and venture capitalists would strictly control their children’s screen time. The prefrontal cortex of the teenage brain, that regulates behaviour and evaluates the consequences of actions, continues to develop until the mid-20’s. In conjunction, the Striatum, the part of the brain strongly associated with motivation and reward is particularly active in the teenage brain. This combination predisposes teenagers to impulsive behaviour and increased risk-taking, along with a heightened sensitivity to instantaneous rewards. A fact which has been unashamedly exploited by these same CEOs, tech giants and app developers that shelter their own children from the excess use of tablets, smartphones and laptops."

“Our community suffers from a lack of strategic thinkers. We belittle subjects such as: politics, sociology, history. We still insist on our children becoming doctors, dentists & engineers - this is due to baggage from our past. These lines of study may create executors of other people’s strategic thinking, but don’t create strategic thinkers for the ummah.”
- Sh. Haitham (hf), ‘Strategic Thinking’ seminar

Aspiring Minds will like to invite an open event to sisters from age 13+ to Basic Life support training this Sunday!
Basic life support (BLS) is the level of medical care used in emergency, life-threatening situations until the victim can be cared for professionally by a team of paramedics or at a hospital. It can help people who are drowning, choking or are suffering from cardiac arrest, and can be the difference between life and death for some.
