Bespoke academy specialising in immersion in the arts and sciences, high-quality English language tuition, travel, & cultural exchange programmes.

Avalon International Academy is founded and run by highly qualified and experienced teachers, Aaron Hussain and Ellie Chadwick. From their base on the Devon coastline they lead a team of dedicated staff including teachers, activity leaders and welfare officers, and organise language courses, cultural exchange experiences, and arts and science themed learning programmes.

The couple also run a theatre company in London and have a range of experience working with young people, teaching English and running workshops. Having worked extensively in the education sector, they became disheartened with the "mickey mouse" corporate approach adopted by many places, where student welfare and experience as well as quality of teaching is often sacrificed in favour of profit.

Aaron and Ellie are well-travelled and believe deeply in the value of learning from other cultures and intercultural collaboration.

About us. . .

Aaron has eight years experience working as a language teacher. Having earned a degree in Environmental Science, Aaron’s specialism is in ecology, conservation, humanitarian issues and the environment. He will teaches lessons about science, politics and popular culture and leading immersive sessions in the great outdoors. Aaron is trained in tracking and canopy access and also works as a fire performer. He is a highly-experienced public speaker and has worked extensively in student services.

Ellie is a doctoral researcher and lecturer at the University of Warwick, has taught for EF Language School and worked as a private tutor and mentor for eight years. Ellie has a first-class degree in English and a Masters with distinction in Staging Shakespeare. Ellie also works as a theatre director and workshop leader in London, has trained with practitioners at Shakespeare's Globe and directed plays for the National Trust, the Minack Theatre and many other venues. Her teaching specialisms are theatre and the arts, voice and pronunciation, grammar, culture, history and literature.
