AYA Futures' Head Tutor /Facilitator, Jamie Shaw M. A, feels strongly that the issues we have with language and our expression of it show us many things about the challenges we are facing in our lives. A typical session with me starts with me saying "Just start talking. . . " I am very person centred in my approach. I teach English communicatively and use techniques that help my students to stay motivated and focused. I use similar techniques to help people access lives that are more authentic to who and what they really are and build careers founded on the things that they enjoy doing.

I work with individuals from all walks of life who wish to develop their creative writing skills, find their voice and take more control over the path of their own lives through the confidence, achievement, magic and direction that comes from expressing ourselves creatively.

> CREATIVE SUPPORT FOR SCHOOL CURRICULA - primary school and upwards, GCSE etc.

I teach our younger generations to support their school work with more inspiring, creative, expressive and, indeed, effective assignments. Primary school kids who are receiving tutoring from me move up their English league tables very quickly. Those taking SAT tests, Secondary school and GCSE pupils see a transformation in their grades. Tutoring tailored to these exams is available. Most effective of all is the fact that my students begin to take ownership of their own development.

​I understand how beneficial a more 'Steiner based' approach is, although I have my own unique 'take' on this which could be best described as Self Organized Learning. I very much enjoy helping my younger students to 'come out of their shells' and become self-motivated to develop their English language expression. I support their school curriculum, their reading, their enthusiasm. Work done with organisations such as Kumon can also be incorporated into what I cover. By starting with their own creative output, planning and writing stories, we can then develop their more technical language skills. Personalising what they are learning in a more theoretical /analytical way at school is exciting, inspiring and means that learning is internalised and held onto.

My approach is fun, engaging and self-generated. As a teacher, I focus on asking the 'right' questions, facilitating expression and confidence, ensuring the student understands that is ok to make mistakes so that they can challenge themselves, and then introducing structures and techniques as and when required. Language skills and enthusiasm for them is generated through content. I build an excellent rapport with my younger students and love to work with them, always focusing on what they feel passionately about at any given moment.

I work with professionals from many different industries and sectors who wish to improve their career prospects and vocational language skills with focused sessions. We can work together to develop the language skills necessary for you to progress in your chosen field. I work both with foreign professionals and English speakers.

Vocabulary, grammar, fluency, writing style, coherence, confidence, structure and impact can all be improved. Services in interview techniques, CVs, covering letters etc can all be provided. With me you can develop your writing style - writing specific to your industry, your presentation style and all other language skills relevant or particular to any vocational field.

Clients include accountants, manufacturing /shop floor /supply chain workers, marketing professionals, statisticians and many more. All careers can be improved by working with me as individuals are facilitated to make quick and lasting progress.

I also function as a career and self-development coach and often help individuals make significant changes to their professional career path, develop job skills, improve confidence levels, and find work which they can truly enjoy. I help people to identify what they really enjoy doing and to access and build a career that fits who and what they really are. Often the barriers to people being able to change their lives are deep and very personal to themselves and their life situations.

I teach general English in a communicative, person-centred style and can help you with your vocabulary, grammar, fluency, natural usage, coherence, reading, speaking, writing, and listening.

I teach in ways that are designed to keep you motivated and focused and are personalised for each individual. I don't use coursebooks and I'm very enthusiastic about New Educational Technologies and the New Learning Environment. I like to use content that my students feel passionate about.

I'm also extremely experienced in preparing people for the various Cambridge exams: FCE, CAE, CPE & IELTS. I can work on your exam technique as well as the various skills and papers involved. Students who work with me PASS. . .
