It’s that time of the year again, the day we indulge in one of the best traditional Swedish treats there is; it’s kanelbullens dag(cinnamon bun day)! The official day of the cinnamon bun has been celebrated every year on October 4th since 1999. This popular bun has been a beloved Swedish pastry since it was invented in the 1920s and is super easy to make as well. Our buns consist of a lush, wheat dough flavoured with lots of cardamom, filled with a cinnamon, butter and syrup layer that you roll into a swirl and sprinkled with pearl sugar. This is the typical Swedish way to make them and they are best enjoyed with a freshly brewed cup of filter coffee.
What better way to spend this sweet day than with us at Bageriet and the best cinnamon buns in London? It’s simply a must!

Hej hej, Bageriet is now closed for our summer holiday. We are back and open on Tuesday the 5th of September at 9am.

Today is one of the most joyous days of the whole year in Sweden, the day we celebrate Swedish summer in all its glory. Midsummer occurs in mid-June when nature has burst into life and the sun never sets, which is a good enough reason to celebrate don’t you think? A traditional Midsummer celebration is usually friends and family gathering to decorate and dance around what we call a “majstång” (May pole), which is a tall wooden pole dressed in flower. We later eat a Midsumme...r buffet with everything from Swedish herring, meatballs to a classic strawberry cake with fresh cream for dessert.
Another traditional Midsummer speciality is “gubbröra” (old man’s mix). It consists of anchovies, eggs, onion, dill and mayonnaise served on Danish rye bread. Our recipe is from a fisherman in the renowned fish market Feskekörkan (Fish church) in Gothenburg. Celebrate Midsummer with us here at Bageriet and enjoy a lovely old man’s mix sandwich.
Happy Midsummer, or as we in Sweden say; glad midsommar!

Today is the national day of Sweden! We celebrate it in honour of king Gustav Vasa’s crowning in 1523 as well as the founding of the Swedish constitution of no longer being an royal autocracy in 1809. It is also in celebration of our Swedish flag.
What better way to celebrate our country than to finish the meal off with some traditional princess cake here with us at Bageriet, the most gorgeous cake of all! ... Happy national day of Sweden!

Today Friday kids from Brunnsbo music school in Sweden will come and sing for us at 2pm. Come, fika, and listen to Swedish folksongs.

Most of you are familiar with our beloved cardamom sponge cake. However, we do have more flavours to our selection that are just as tasty! Have you tried our chocolate and orange or orange and cinnamon sponge cake? The light, yet moist texture combined with the rich flavours make great fika treats. They all have a base made of butter, sugar, egg and flour and then added spices of choice. We in Sweden are very fond of the sponge cake or as we call it; “mjuk kaka” (soft cake).... It’s a lovely alternative for biscuits to your tea and coffee. The classical Swedish sponge cake called “sockerkaka” would often be flavoured lightly with vanilla or lemon and was typically a treat to be served at your grandparents or for the afternoon coffee. It’s usually the base for most of our traditional cakes such as a Midsummer strawberry cake or the popular princess cake.
This weekend we’ll be making our popular cardamon cake and also the chocolate&orange cake.

Summer is in the air and London is in full bloom. But that does not mean we’re still not craving a hot chocolate even on a nice summer day. To put a summer twist on our signature drink we’ve swapped our famous spiced hot chocolate for a delicious chocolate orange flavour. We use the best Belgian chocolate, flavour it with organic orange oil and top it with foamed milk. This lush drink takes you back to the classic Swedish "Romerska bågar" an orange chocolate that you remember from your childhood. If you’re a big chocolate orange fan we suggest you try this drink with our nötgrotta (nut cave); a chocolate, orange and hazelnut tart.

Today is the official chokladbollens dag (day of the chocolate ball) which is probably one of the most appreciated and popular Swedish fika treat. This delicious chocolate delight is loved by all ages and is offered at most Swedish celebrations. The reason for its popularity is probably because of how easy they are to make and of course how tasty they are. All you need is butter, oats, sugar, dark cacao, a little bit of strong coffee and some vanilla extract. Roll them in coconut flakes and put them in the fridge. No oven or fermentation needed! A chokladboll is best sat and enjoyed with a rich cup of coffee. Join us at Bageriet today and do the same. Happy chocolate ball day!

Easter at Bageriet!
Semla season is coming to an end and Easter is approaching with sweets and treats and all that it entails. It’s time for a well needed Easter break and we here at Bageriet close at 5pm on Thursday the 13th and open again on the 24th of April. Make sure to get your last semla bun before then, try a piece of our yellow Easter edition princess cake or just come in for a Swedish fika in our Easter embellished bakery. We here at Bageriet would like to wish you all a very happy Easter filled with sweetness and love.

Next week is the official liquorice day in Sweden and as you may know; Swedes are crazy about liquorice and so are we here at Bageriet! Some of our best sellers are our liquorice alternatives such as our salted liquorice meringues, and the beloved liquorice and raspberry jam. They are both excellent dessert options and you can easily mix some vanilla ice cream with our homemade liquorice jam or the meringues.
The official liquorice day is on the 12th of April but that does not stop us from eating liquorice all year long.

We Swedes are big open sandwich lovers, but we do like an alternative for breakfast. Our go to classics are either porridge or a nice bowl of granola with plain yogurt.
Have you tried our homemade granola? Our rye and berry granola is a perfect combo of healthy and a touch of sweetness. It’s great as a wholesome snack between semla season and all the Easter treats we’ll soon be indulging in. Instead of oats, it’s made of rye and spelt flakes, which makes it healthier and gives it that nice crunchiness. We then flavour it with dried, organic blueberry, blackcurrant and strawberry powder as well as whole Swedish berries. Try it with some Greek yogurt and drizzle a tiny bit of honey over or bring it out with you in the sun on a picnic as a tasty nibble. This filling and delicious breakfast snack is a perfect start to the day!

Unbelievably good. I've not had pastries like this since visiting Finland as a child and last year in Denmark. Visit. Eat. Revisit. I can't believe i've lived in London for 18 years and i only discovered this place last week!! The chocolate shop next door (French) is amazing too. Both make on site (underneath the shops).

This is absolutely my favourite bakery ever. The cakes are the most amazing thing - and I say this as someone who is a good baker. It’s a very small cafe - the only thing is I wish it were a bit roomier to stay to have coffee with friends!

User

The best princess cake and semlor buns in London, in fact everything is of the highest quality. But please, you’re too small to allow people to hold business meetings, especially when they don’t even have anything to eat.

User

The best kanelbullar I have ever had and the princess tårta is just out of this world.... It always tastes so fresh because of the layer of raspberry coulis instead of jam

User

The baked goods are just like stepping into a home or bakery in Sweden - delicious, meticulously made, high quality and authentic. The coffee is great, the staff lovely - a wonderful spot for a real taste of the best Sweden has to offer!

User

The Princess Tort is the best cake I have ever tasted anywhere and is worth making a visit just for this. The coffee is top notch as well, so apart from the small size of the premises, this is one of the finest cafes in London in terms of quality and taste.

User

Purchased a Spandau and a Sockerkringla for our train journey home to North Yorkshire, what can I say but WOW, so delicious, just wish I could come down to London more to try all your wonderful produce

Fantastic little place. Lovely fresh cinnamon buns. The best I’ve tasted anywhere! Only seats 8 people so it’s pot luck if you get a seat or not. The Princess torta cake is to die for.
