About Balthazar Restaurant, London
In the heart of Covent Garden, Balthazar is open all day, serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, as well as an amazing weekend brunch.
Balthazar Restaurant, London Description
The original Balthazar was opened in New York City by Keith McNally in the spring of 1997. The London edition opened in February 2013 on the corner of Russell Street and Wellington Street in the heart of Covent Garden, just down the road from The Royal Opera House. Housed in the old Theatre Museum, in a building called “The Flower Cellars”, Balthazar will be sharing the space with The London Film Museum. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, plus weekend brunch. From opening to closing, food will be available all day long. There is a Balthazar bakery housed next door serving its own house-made artisan breads, as well as a wide selection of homemade pastries, salads and sandwiches to take away throughout the day.

I haven't eaten here yet but it's now on my HL. I absolutely adore foie gras. It's so smooth and the way it slides down your throat is sublime. Thanks all you haters for bringing this restaurant to my attention.
i looked at your menu and decided straight away that I didn't want to eat at your establishment, why on earth would you sell something as cruel as foie gras?
To produce foie gras workers ram pipes down the throats of male ducks twice a day, pumping up to 2.2 pounds of grain and fat into their stomachs, or geese three times a day, up to 4 pounds daily, in a process known as gavage. The force feeding causes the birds' livers to swell up to 10 times their normal size. Many birds have difficulty standing because their engorged livers distend their abdomens, and they may tear out their own feathers and attack each other out of stress. The birds are kept in tiny cages or crowded sheds. Unable to bathe or groom themselves, they become coated with excrement mixed with oils that would normally protect their feathers from water. Other common health problems include damage to the esophagus, fungal infections, heart stress, lesions, and fractures of the sternum. Some ducks die of aspiration pneumonia, which occurs when grain is forced into the Ducks' lungs or when the birds choke on their own vomit. Since foie gras is made from the livers of only male ducks, all female ducklings are useless to the industry, and are tossed into grinders while still alive.
How is this torture worth an appetizer!! Take foie gras off your menu!!
This kind of practice is illegal in the UK for a reason...it is barbaric. Please head the movement to stop this altogether. Be ahead of the game, be innovaters not followers. Please rethink your food and make changes to avoid cruelty on your plates and on your conscience!
The production of foie gras is banned in this country on grounds of cruelty to animals, yet you choose to support this indefensible cruelty by importing and selling it. Shame on you. Do the decent thing and take it off your menu.
The food is great but it brings torture and cruelty on every plate. I would stay away from this restaurant unless you believe that cruelty to animals is perfectly OK.
Take foie gras off the menu. It is banned for a reason which you surely know of and you're accepting this horrendous cruelty to make a profit. Do the right thing, have compassion!
Shame on you for profiting from foie gras which is so cruel that it is actually banned to produce in this country. Stop torturing these birds and take foie gras off the menu or please believe that the boycott will not stop!
Please remove foie gras from your menu. Puncturing holes into ducks necks and shuving tubes down their necks is not only disgustingly cruel but beyond excruciatingly painful. Please remove foie gras from your menu. Thank you.
Please remove foie gras from your menu as you are supporting cruelty to animals, ducks and geese shouldn't have to suffer for us to eat their diseased liver. how would you like a tube shoved down your throat and force fed until you die
Please have some compassion and take foie gras of the menu. It is a cruel barbaric practice that should be banned. We need more compassion in the world not more pain and suffering. Thank you
It's horrific that there are still restaurants around which serve this horrible produced item Foiegras!! It's extreme animal cruelty!! Please remove it from your menu so I can recommend your restaurant everywhere!
In my ignorance I assumed that the production of foie gras involved the over-feeding of birds with a view to fattening and enlarging their livers. I had no idea until I heard of a Lady on- line who actually changed her name to stop a store from selling this product that the birds are force fed by means of a long tube down into their gullets three times a day! The pictures are truly horrific and I am struggling to reconcile the ethical disparity between the so called sophisticated elite who would likely consume it and the barbarity involved in the products production?
If you enjoy feasting on the grossly swollen livers of ducks and geese that have been cruelly force-fed, then this is the place for you! If you have any compassion and morals, then you'll avoid this crappy cafe like the plague.
I was about to come in and book a table for 30 but thank God I saw the foie gras and other dead animal parts in time. I went elsewhere where they don't trade in cruelty
Fois gras is banned in this country for a reason.
It's insanely cruel and completely unethical to force feed a bird until it's liver explodes!
It must now be removed from your menu.
Shame on you!
Foie gras is not classy it's cruel. It's an outdated item to have on your menu, making more people feel uncomfortable, disappointed and appalled rather than impressed. Aesthetically your restaurant is beautiful, but it cannot truly be called a success when it holds such immoral values; looks count for nothing when the menu is so disgustingly ugly.
Foie gras is defined as the liver of a duck or goose fattened by FORCE-FEEDING corn with a feeding tube up to 3 times a day! A process also known as gavage.
In summary torture! Pain! Death!
When you know, you say no!
Foie Gras is the vile product of torture. Not even sure how it qualifies as being fit for human consumption...There is nothing classy or respectable about an establishment which condones animal cruelty in any form. Remove Fois Gras from your menu or expect to be boycotted.
