Basaveshwara & Ambedkar’s birth anniversary jointly celebrated as Anti-discrimination day in London
The 885rd Birth Anniversary of Basaveshwara was celebrated as joint anniversary of Basaveshwara and Ambedkar to mark as an anti-discrimination day in London.
... The Indian High commissioner to United Kingdom, Mrs. Ruchi Ghanashyam and The Deputy Indian High Commissioner, Mr Charanjeet Singh paid joint tribute to Basaveshwara and Ambedkar at Albert embankment in London.
The event was organized by the Former Mayor of the London borough of Lambeth, Dr Neeraj Patil on behalf of the Lambeth Basaveshwara Foundation, a non-profit organization that own’s the intellectual property rights of the Basaveshwara statue and its vicinity.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Patil said, “We are paying tribute to both Basaveshwara and Ambedkar jointly because both share a conceptual relationship. Both opposed caste discrimination and gender inequality.”
Basaveshwara pioneered the idea of Democracy in the 12th century, Ambedkar was the architect of Indian Democracy and its Constitution. They were both champions of liberty, freedom of speech and human rights. Members of Indian community took a pledge at the statue to oppose caste discrimination.
On 14th Nov 2015 Prime Minister Modi simultaneously unveiled the statue of Basaveshwara and Ambedkar’s house in London.
The Basaveshwara statue erected at the Albert Embankment is not only the first statue to be unveiled by an Indian Prime Minister in the UK, but is also the first conceptual statue approved by the British Cabinet in the vicinity of the British Parliament.
Ambedkar House in London was brought by Government of Maharashtra and converted into a museum, while acquiring higher education in London during 1921-1922, he lived in this house.
The Ambedkar house is located in the London borough of Camden and the address is 10, King Henry’s Road, London NW3 3RP.

We are extremely sad to inform you that today the 21stJanuary 2019 at 11:44 AM, His Holiness Shri Shri Shiva Kumar Swami ji passed away. The only true living God is no more, this is a great loss to our state & country. His Holiness Shri Shri Shivakumar Swami ji’s contribution to social work and eradication of child poverty in I...ndia will always be remembered.
On 17thof February 2013 Swami ji donated and blessed with a foundation stone to be placed underneath the Basaveshwara statue in London.
Today the 21st of January 2019 at 20:00 GMT a condolence meeting and candlelight vigil prayer is held at the Basaveshwara statue in London where the blessed stone of Swami ji is remaining eternally.

His Highness Shri Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, the 27th head of The of Kingdom of Mysore, paid tribute to The Basaveshwara statue in London and walked along the famous Mysore road on 8th December 2018 at 12:00 noon.
The Mysore road in London derives its name because, the recruitment centre for The British Mysore regiment was located at this site in the 18th century during the British Rule.
He was accompanied by Her Highness Smt Trishikha Kumari Wadiyar and The For...mer Mayor of the London Borough of Lambeth, Dr Neeraj Patil
Members of British Indian/ Kannada community and the President of Basava Samiti of United Kingdom, Mr Abhi Salimath also joined them.
Addressing the audience, Mr Yaduveer said, “I am extremely pleased to see the statue of an Indian philosopher and pioneer of Indian Democracy in the backdrop of British Parliament overlooking the river Thames.”
The Basaveshwara statue in London was the first conceptual statue approved by the British Cabinet in the vicinity of the British Parliament in UK. The statue project was approved by the planning department of The London borough of Lambeth and subsequently by the British Cabinet minister for culture media and sports as per the Public Statues Act, 1854.
The Basaveshwara statue and its vicinity is the intellectual property of the Foundation and was unveiled by Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi on 14th November 2015.
