On the blog: J & A Beare bow expert Derek Wilson discusses the 'Dressel Tubbs' (Lot 6 in our current catalogue) and its distinctive feature common to many bows made for August Wilhelmj and his pupils: having the nose of the frog slanting down.
Not simply a result of wear and heavy use, this is a wholly intentional design feature by Tubbs, seen on the world record auction price breaking bow that James Tubbs (1834-1921) presented to Wilhelmj in 1885, and on this Dressel Tubbs.
Lot 6: Violin bow by James Tubbs, c.1894. Bidding ends 30 March, 2.40pm. https://www.bearesauctions.com/…/6byi3a 0ntmv9yql6is6hb9nkdg…

There are several ways to buy from Beares Auctions, including through our brand new 'Make An Offer' phase. Lots that are unsold at the end of bidding will be available for our buyers to make a reasonable offer (excluding commissions and VAT).
Once a reasonable offer is received, we will consider the offer, liaise with the seller and revert to the potential buyer with an answer as to whether the offer is accepted, declined or with a counteroffer.
We are currently accepting offers on three bows: Lot 1 (Joseph Alfred Lamy), Lot 3 (Jean Joseph Martin), and Lot 4 (Charles Peccatte). Visit auction.bearesauctions.com to find out more...
