Bea’s of Bloomsbury

Bea'S Of Bloomsbury Description

‘If eating cake is wrong, I don’t want to be right’

It all began in Bloomsbury February 2008, and a small team of us opened the doors selling cakes, pastries, and all sorts of sweet and savoury treats for the local area. In what was once a former bank branch back in 1860, our tiny, cozy shabby shop is taken up by our active open plan pastry kitchen, we churn out all the cupcakes, loaf cakes, cookies, brownies, marshmallows, meringues for all of the shops. We are proud to be part of the fabric of the neighbourhood and hope to make our customers' day just a little bit happier.

Being a small and intimate space our Bloomsbury location is the perfect setting for small parties such as hen dos, christenings and birthdays. Ever heard of the expression “mi casa su casa “? Well that is exactly how we would describe our venue. We want you to see our lovely space as your living room, decorate it as you want and also listen to the music of your choice. You and your friends can enjoy mountains of scones with clotted cream and jam, lots of different flavour cupcakes, mini treats such as brownies, meringues and marshmallows and just to squeeze something savoury in there our delicious mini baguettes.

Moet NV and Prosecco now available by the glass, or as part of the Full or Sweet Afternoon Tea.

Your window display in Maida Vale station caught my eye. I ordered a piece of carrot cake and the gentleman took the time to tell me about the special story behind the traditional war time recipe, delicately placed it in a gorgeous box and then threw in a delicious piece of banana bread for free. You made my day :-)

User

Went there for afternoon tea with my partner and we both had a wonderful time. The cake I had was delicious. The setting is wonderful and relaxing and the member of staff who served us was both friendly and professional!

User

We had the most amazing red velvet cake & giant meringue - the staff are all so lovely. Thank you

User

We booked 22 people for afternoon tea here for a Hen Do, the smell that hits you from all the cakes as you walk is unbelievable!

We had an area upstairs to ourselves tucked out the way. The food was lovely and cakes so tasty. Everyone in the party commented how nice it was and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Great value for money and will look forward to returning.

User

Was over in london for a holiday. Went in to Bea's cake boutique in farrington .The assistant there, was very friendly and really helpfull and went out of her way to be helpfull to us. Would highly recommend it!

User

Thanks a lot for the very warm welcome. Was at St. Paul"s last Friday together with a group of 17 senior English students from Germany - we prebooked it some time ago. It was really fun! The service was great and the waitress was lovely - the group members will keep you in good memory. The cupcakes were amazing :-)

User

Small and cozy place. Perfect for afternoon tea with friends. Great selection of cakes and cupcakes.

User

My sister took me to the st Paul's branch yesterday and we had such a lovely time. It was cosy and relaxing we had the afternoon tea the little brioch sandwiches were lovely and fresh and the cakes were all very nice with a good selection and plenty for 2 people. We spent about 2 hours eating and drinking tea which was refilled when we asked . The staff were all friendly and quick with service I can't fault it will definitely come again.

User

Lovely place and we get our best recomendation

User

Lovely afternoon tea at Bloomsbury today. Really enjoyed my gluten free cakes. Very attentive and lovely staff!

User

I ordered a Chocolate Guinness cake for my son's 18th Birthday which melted in everyone's mouth! dense texture, full of flavour and superb customer service to top it off! I will definitely be back.

User

Had a wedding cake consultation with Mona over the weekend - it was a great experience. Mona was really patient with us and took her time explaining all the different options available to us. I love Bea's cakes, so knew I would have to have something from here for my big day - the cake tasting was as delicious as I was expecting. Excited to see the final result :)

User

Fantastic place <3 !

User

Fab cakes, brilliant service! Mum and i had the most lovely afternoon here

User

Excellent! Went for a cake tasting session and chatted with Mona (Apologies, I'm not sure how to spell her name) She gave us red carpet treatment and made us feel like first class customers even though our budget is small. Can't imagine going anywhere else and I am so excited about the cake. Absolutely delicious!! For anyone considering where to go for cakes I highly recommend Bea's. Best cakes I've ever had.

User

Beautiful cakes, great service although it should be said the sandwiches don't have traditional British fillings which was a little bit disappointing due to the fact it was my first gluten free afternoon tea but still very tasty.

User

Bea's Bloombsbury in Holborn has a lovely environment, brilliant, friendly staff and super-tasty food/drinks for everyone (gluten-free, vegan choices, etc). Definitely going back again soon as now addicted to the vegan muffins! The Afternoon Tea looks amazing too and all the food is freshly made. 5 Stars....and more! =D

User

Amazing cake!!!! I have used their 'design your own cake' service twice now and it's been great. Last time I ordered on Friday morning and it was ready to collect by Saturday! The cake was so indulgent and rich in flavour! Well received by others too. Staff at their St Paul's store were lovely! Will continue to use them for ordering specially made cakes! :) Thank you! x

User

really enjoyed my coffee & banana loaf in this quirky tea room. staff friendly and pleasant. recommend if ever in the area

User

We booked for two standard and one gluten free afternoon tea in Theobald's Place branch. We were initially setup inside but since the sun is shining beautifully they were happy to set us up outside.

The savoury selection both options are the same with the difference of the bread brioche for standard and ciabatta for gluten free. My friends enjoyed it well. The staff are really friendly and accomodating but perhaps being seated outside you're tend be forgotten. I marked it down due to presentation of the clotted cream, slow service and very limited tea choices but good coffee choices though. We still gave tip as we thought they tried really hard.

User

Nice Afternoon tea menu, and nice staff!!! I like the red velvet cupcake the most!!

User

My friend and I were really looking forward to this. Was great, food lovely and cakes very tasty. However marked down as the staff clearly messed up somewhere. Someone called me 4 times and emailed me twice trying to tell me that the gentleman I was with lied and paid for items that were of lower cost - so basically accusing me of theft....clearly an error on their part as myself and my friend are clearly female...and paid the waitress upstairs. Slightly ruined the experience for us

User

My daughter's treated me for afternoon tea as it is a favourite occupation of ours. Presentation good. Would have preferred a better balance of savoury to sweet food as too much sweet stuff. And that's from someone with a sweet tooth! I would say I have had better and worse. Overall ok and enjoyable and waiting staff helpful.

User

Cute and quaint. A ton to eat.

User

The only saving grace is the food. I went to the St. Paul's outlet a few days ago. One of the girls on the counter kept looming around, I told her thrice that I'd like a Townie and then finally when another girl had put he Townie in a bag she put the transaction through.

Firstly she said it was £2.60, when I told her the tag says £2.50 she said the price changed (then why the hell have you got a wrongly printed tag).

Secondly, I paid £20 and got £15 in change. When I asked her where is the rest of my change she said you had two townies I told her you gave me just one. She insisted I got two and then went through the bag again. She didn't even say sorry she just sighed and said I'm tired (then why are you working woman)

Beas has really good food and stuff like Townies and Duffins is what attracts people. If you're going to have such untrained staff who deliver such bad customer service, hire me instead.

User

The food was not so bad. Good the cake orange and almond, but I have to say never in London I have met so impolite staff. Hopefully is just the one I have been served. This review is to advice to care more about costumers.

User

The afternoon tea was not worth the price (chipped plates and leaky teapots) ...and be careful if you are a vegetarian as they were not very careful with our veggie platter!!

I would go just for cake and coffee only.... if I ever go there again

User

Lovely place for afternoon tea. The food was tasty, especially the savoury brioches. However, the service was very poor & impersonal. Would try somewhere different for an afternoon tea when visiting London next time.

User

Whilst the food was lovely - we had booked afternoon tea for 3 people and were put on a table that was not suitable for any more than 2 people. It's very cramped in general and you are felt very very rushed as there are so many bookings - we hadn't finished our food when we were told to leave as the next booking had arrived. I wouldn't recommend for a special afternoon tea experience

User

The place was very cosy and the staff very nice. Unfortunately their so called gluten free Afternoon Tea was contaminated with gluten so I became ill.

User

The lavender cupcake frosting was fabulous but the cake was dense and hugely lacked flavour. I was really excited to try these beautiful looking cupcakes. Really let down!

User

Saturday was my 4th visit to your st Paul's venue and will mostly likely be my last over my visites i feel the quality and quantity or the afternoon tea has been a big disappointment as its such a beautiful venue and have brilliant customer service the scones i found where over cooked and far too crumbley and the cakes had no flavour the only thing I found exceptional in flavour was the tea and champagne it was most definitely not worth the price i paid.

User

Live in germany and wanted to surprise during a short Trip in London. I booked a afternoon tea and requested one vegetarian, a baileys cupcake and two glasses of campaigne.

Neither the table was laid nor the food prepared. It The woman had no idea what I booked online although seh Said seh did. Can't accept lying in my Face, they just don't read the requests you write online. That was really a shame. I wanted to make this something special and not waiting ages for table and food... and unfriendly service

User

Visited London with friends. We had pre-booked afternoon tea at Bea's at St Pauls. On arrival the 1st female waitress told us off & said we had only booked for 3 people when in fact we had the email which confirmed 4. After being served by the 2nd female waitress who struggled with her english & could not differentiate between what was a coffee & a breakfast tea. After this she just walked away without taking our hot drinks order. We were then brought the food. At this point I will just give you the major issues. 1: Items were missing, 2: One of the blondies was completly raw, 3:The scones were raw in the centre, 4: One of the replacement scones had a hair in it, 5: The refill pot of tea consisted of just hot water added to an old tea bag. At the point of paying I quietly spoke to the manageress & asked for the 10% service charge to be removed. She did this, apologised & took a further 20% of the total bill. At this point I did feel happy that I had received a valued apology until a male australian waiter came right up to me & said "Didn't you like it"? to which I said not really as there was a hair in one of the scones. He then replied "Really!! You're full of it you". The manageress told him to shut up however he persisted to berate me in front of other customers. In conclusion if you want to eat uncooked food which contains hair & be verbally abused by the waiter then this is the place for you.

User

St Paul's cafe was awful. Waiter was rude and unapologetic. Booked afternoon tea for 4 friends and requested a gluten free one at the time of booking. This was confirmed on arrival but it didn't come until 30 minutes after all the other food had arrived and it was clear that the gluten free one had been forgotten. The sandwiches were made of sliced tesco gf bread (not what you would expect from a bakery which is why I left them) and the waiter said that the scone was still being cooked and would be 20 minutes (it didn't actually arrive until well after we had eaten everything else). The manager did listen to my concerns and gave me a discount but with the combination of bad food and service was not worth the £26.50 per afternoon tea you ask for. Oh and don't eat here if you are coeliac or gluten intolerant - I was very ill that evening so I don't think they understand the seriousness of these conditions and the importance of trying not to cross contaminate. So disappointed with our experience.

User

My boyfriend and I are still kicking ourselves after our visit over a week ago, as we cannot get over the fact we payed £10 for a pot of tea and a couple of scones drier than the Sahara, when Tesco flogs a 12 pack of saltana scones for 65p.

Obviously our bad for not just buying the Tesco scones. But if we’re paying £10 for scones, we would expect the biggest, fluffiest and yummiest scones in the UK, with jam straight off the stove and cream fresh from the whipper.

I write this with no malice towards the staff, as they were all lovely and accomodating. I write this from a heavy heart as we had such high hopes for our first ‘tea and scones’ in London and it was not up to scratch.

User

Just had the worst cake ever. My slice of banana bread was so dry and stale I was surprised they served it up! Tea lovely and staff OK but felt truly disappointed by the quality and would definitely NOT recommend.

User

From start to finish it was a complete shamble's! We actually walked past it on the street, as nothing like the photographs on website. But we went in anyway as it had been recommended and the webpage looked lovely, plus we had booked Afternoon Tea for 2, so kept to our booking!

We sat by window at first and had a pot of tea and a fizzy water as we were early, no one else in at the time, whilst woman set our table opposite stairs down to toilets, why there I dont know?? We used the Loo's which need a good cleaning or better still a total reform!

Our visit was meant to be special as my sister had wanted to surprise us with afternoon tea there, she knew as soon as she walked in, it wasnt what she expected, but me being me said lets give it a try, the food maybe lovely. I was so so wrong and bless her she was the one who paid the bill :(

There were 3 of us but 1 didnt want to eat, so luckily we just ordered for 2 people with an extra pot of tea.....I had already looked at the cake's on counter, so had n idea which one I would choose......but the woman who worked there came to our table with a 3 tier cake stand with everything already on including sandwiche's, both had cheese on and I dont even like cheese!

To think our bill came to over 60pds with our extra pot of tea n fizzy water and NOT to be given a choice of what we would like to eat was so wrong, but we didnt think about it at the time, as we just wanted to chat n enjoy our time together.

I have read the reviews and cannot believe the lack of response from what is meant to be a well known establishment, as a business you should want to know the good comments aswell as the bad comments and try to make things right for the customer, after all, your charging enough for your so called food and staff service!!!

We will NEVER go back, my sister paid the bill, but it would make us feel better knowing you can at least try and do the right thing by responding to this comment and make lots of changes to your establishment 1 of them is to stop putting cakes in a draw behind the counter!! The other is to CLEAN the toilets, I dread to think what the kitchen is like if the Loo's are so poorly maintained!!!

I can honestly say MacDonalds has a friendlier atmosphere, and spotlessly clean for a quarter of the price!

To pay 61.35p for 2 people and 3rd person only having a pot of tea you expect good food of your choice we didnt get it!!

Such a shame as it was meant to be something special from my sister :( A very disappointed customer!!!!!!!!

User

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS BAKERY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Ordered a cake from here and it was not at the designated pick up point at the designated time. Home delivery took a further two hours. Was not offered any sort or refund despite the fact that similar bakeries have when mistakes have been made. Terrible staff, terrible service. I would give this place 0 stars if it was an option.

User
