Beautiful Balin

Community garden around the Balin House, London SE1

We are the neighbours from the Balin House looked after our small green spaces separately 3 years ago but came together from this year Spring to improve and maintain the common green areas around the house.

Our community garden project – the Beautiful Balin – helped us to meet with each other, the key persons of the Balin House.

We have 7 members at the moment but we also get some help from the neighbours from the Eynsford House.

We have very wide varieties of nice flowers and shrubs at our own areas but the common area in a discovery / preparation stage at the moment with some small improvements.

Also the benefit of the project, we created a closed Facebook group, Facebook page and mailing list and communicate more with each other than before: share our thoughts, info and experiences.

We have different motivations and ideas to come together. Someone is happy with only some gardening. Another person has wide range of knowledge and experience about the history of the place, the residents and the funding opportunities. Me personally would like to start up an organisation and manage an official body with more funding opportunities. But in the garden we have great time to discuss about these ideas.
