A busy maintenance day at the National Centre with our fantastic volunteer team. The main runway looks absolutely stunning and the whole site is in top condition ready for this weekend's Jet Modellers Association Fly-in and Jet Scale competition (Fri-Sat-Sun) 3 full days of kerosene fuelled excitement. Why not come along and see what's going on, spectators welcome and if the weather does its worst the kettle will be on in the Goldsmith Hangar. MW

Well, it seems like a very quiet Monday at the National Centre following such a busy and successful (not to mention noisy at times) competition with the hosting of the BMFA University and Schools Payload Challenge. This years competition saw a record number of entries and also the highest number of successful flights in the history of the competition. The Challenge continues to promote technical achievement, design flair, teamwork, aviation knowledge and sportsmanship, a ...great weekend of competition at BMFA Buckminster. Every year we see new, innovative and often entirely improbable designs taking to the air, my absolute favourite for 2019 was the creation of Ollie Harris from The University of South Wales, beautifully constructed, fantastic payload capability and it flew stunningly well, what a treat to see it in the air. Junior innovation through model flying at it's absolute best, great work Ollie. M

Last week saw a visit to BMFA Buckminster for a reunion by the cast of the Battle of Britian Model Squadron TV program. Here are just some of the highlights! Courtesy of Luke McChesney https://youtu.be/WFSsy2bOZcg

A fantastic picture to round off the weekend's Ghost Squadron aerotow meeting at the National Centre. Chris Garrod's stunning ASH25 could be the real thing, a great shot with the wing mounted camera and the National Centre below. What a picture!

John Greenfields mighty half scale Wien glider takes to the skies at the National Centre. A stunning replica of Robert Kronfields 1929 record breaking glider which was the first glider to complete a flight of over 100km. Beautifully constructed, and a real treat to see in the air, note the scale drop off wheel dolly. MW

A great weekend of aerotow action at the National Centre with the Ghost Squadron. 3 days of towing and soaring with some great machinery using the Hangar and out on the flight line. A real mixture of modern moulded gliders along with some all built up vintage masterpieces. The tugs have been kept busy all weekend. Thank you to the Ghost Squadron team for another superbly organised and safe event at BMFA Buckminster, we look forward to next year's.... MW

It's a blowy day at the National Centre so not too much flying going on today. Forecast is looking a little better for the weekend so why not come over and join in with the SAM 35 Spring Fly-in. Of course we also have our Spring Swapmeet on Sunday, all indoor tables are sold and we have a good number of outdoor pitches booked so it looks like a great day of bargain hunting ahead. There will be catering on site so what's not to like? Munch - Shop - Fly? An £8.00 day ticket pro...vides entry to the swapmeet plus access to the flying site (with SAM 35 appropriate aircraft) in the afternoon, swapmeet entry only is £2.50. We look forward to seeing you at BMFA Buckminster.

We were pleased to welcome the Jet Modellers Association for their first Fly-in of the year at the BMFA National Centre. Lots of jets on site and plenty of flying throughout the day with just a break for the Association AGM in the middle of the day. The weather was great and there were a number maiden flights with new aircraft. Congratulations to all the pilots and flighline team for a safe and enjoyable days flying. Another full day tomorrow. ... Spectators welcome to come along and enjoy the jet action, forecast is looking good. MW

Another great volunteer Thursday at the National Centre in very spring like conditions today. Our fantastic team made the most of the sunshine and completed a range of tasks covering grounds maintenance and development work. The runways are in great shape and looking very neat and tidy after today's cut. The owl boxes are almost ready for putting up around the site and there's been a fair bit of fence painting and hole filling. The highlight of the day has been the completio...n of the new welcome and information sign just inside the entrance which creates a great first impression for visitors. All thanks to our dedicated team. MW

A frosty day at the National Centre today but that didn't put our team of dedicated volunteers off. Plenty of jobs underway in readiness for the coming season. A bit of a bonus was the download of a night time picture of our two barn owls making the most of the flyers shelter. We also have a little owl and a tawny owl living on site and today there were common snipe resting on the runway. Plenty of wildlife at BMFA Buckminster. ... MW

A great start to the New Year at the National Centre today with a mix of disciplines making the most of perfect winter flying weather. We have a control line combat get together (very effectively organised through their own Facebook group) and a group of control line stunt flyers getting some practice in and also joined by some of our season ticket radio flyers out on the main runway. The site is looking in great order and the grass will need cutting fairly soon unless the p...redicted cold weather arrives. The new conifer hedge is starting to flourish thanks to recent work from volunteer team to stake and secure them against the winter weather. We have also just received good news regarding our recent planning application for the campsite which has been granted full approval (we have previously been operating under the 28 day allowance). All is looking positive for the coming year and we look forward to welcoming you to BMFA Buckminster during 2019. MW
