For autumn 2018, The White Company launches a new scent... ginger. Giving the feeling of cosying up in a country cottage, warmed by a roaring log fire and a flickering of candlelight on an Autumn day, an instantly welcoming air that envelops the senses completely #thewhitecompany

User

We visited the new Everyman cinema. Very impressed. Staff all friendly and helpful. New style cinema with sofas was lovely, so comfy, lots of leg room and great service. Food and drinks all brought to your sofa! I just hope it stays well maintained. I would definitely choose this cinema over empire or odean if it stays like this.

User

Very nice to have John Lewis, what a lovely store. Pity so many of the other shops are not open yet. I agree with the parking, think it will be a nightmare on the run up to Christmas. Suggest people use the Park and Ride but it doesn't operate on Sundays... very bizarre.

User

Never shopped in Chelmsford before but would definitely come back due to stores like the white company and l'occitane. John Lewis was really nice though we chose not to park there as thought it would be too busy. Still a few shops yet to open yet on Bond Street, would love to see a Zara there.

User

Looking good, not a 'full line' John Lewis store but, on the whole, a good selection of all things JL and saves a trip to Bluewater (that said I love Bluewater for other reasons and the parking is free, unlike Chelmsford!).

Lovely canapes, prosecco and live music for the preview evening.

User

John Lewis was quite good, however was so pleased to find a "The White Linen Company shop" close by, made my day, never knew it was there, and the black Friday sale was still on. Fantastic..

User

I was overall very impressed with Bond Street having visited on its opening weekend. A good selection of shops to draw in lots of customers and I think it will be even better when the new Everyman cinema opens in December! I personally am a big fan of Cath Kidston, Foyles and Hotel Chocolat and will be checking out John Lewis soon. The major down side that I could see to Bond Street was how popular it is but how little extra parking has been made available. The new development stands where a large car park once stood, and yet only 288 spaces have been build in the underground car park. Traffic was at a standstill at the Tesco roundabout with a queue of cars waiting to get into the car park at Bond Street and the sign said the car park was full! Tesco car park was gridlocked too and so were all the surface car parks in the immediate area. The upmarket shops will draw in a large crowd, yet parking becomes hugely frustrating. It would be better using public transport to get there, however the bus service in Chelmsford leaves a lot to be desired.

User

I loved John Lewis & bond street on my first visit yesterday however I now know why there were so many free parking spaces- I think you get caught once & then can't afford to go there again! I parked @11.59 and had lunch & shopped with a little one by the time we were ready to go I had to take him to the toilet which can be a challenge with a pre schoolers!! I must of clicked over into another hour by 2-3 minutes & nearly keeled over when my parking cost displayed on the screen £12 !!! I was furious won't be coming back ..... certainly is 'bond st' London prices ...... who can afford to spend money there & afford to exit to get home!! The red mist came down when I slowed at the barrier on exit to put the ticket in...... the barrier just lifted was not happy it's daylight robbery - John Lewis didn't want to know even though the lift in store goes directly down into the car park apparently they don't own it! Beware if you think you're going for a lovely leisurely shop in the winter sunshine for a few hours steer clear of the bond street car park under John Lewis- better still go lakeside & park for free!

User

I lived in Chelmsford for thirty four years until I moved to Colchester nearly three years ago. It's the best I've ever seen the shopping area. And pleased they used the name bond st as Debhnams used to be called Bonds, I do wish the roads should have been altered to cope with the traffic thou. Glad I don't live near Bullie Park any more.

User

Chelmsford needs to cater for children's clothes so I believe that John Lewis should stock.

I love the other stores offered and excited for the new Schuh stores.

Would like to see a Lego store or a Disney store, a Zara (with Zara kids), a Polan o Pyret store, and some more independent gift shops such as Tickety Boo that was in chelmsford for many years. We miss having a Gap store so think for kids this opens up a market that's not yet being met ☺️

User

A good edition to Chelmsford. John Lewis smaller than expected, disappointed in the furniture section which we were waiting to buy a sofa from. Also lack of the household extras such as the picture gallery which I love in Stratford. Pleased we now have somewhere local for Molton Brown products, also the new Hotel Chocolat is fab. I couldn't believe not any of the new advertised eateries are open yet, this will help a great deal for lunch and coffees. Went looking for Jamaica Blue and couldn't even see where it will be located? I'm guessing under the theatre with the rest.

Overall though a very good start as I believe opened earlier than originally advertised a year or so ago. Need to tidy up the walk from the retail park along the river past the ice rink as very muddy on Sunday due to Drains?? dug up all way along.

User

Great new John Lewis although some of usual items missing eg kitchen white goods which is a pity. No publicity re expensive cost of parking and also pedestrian exits out of car park badly signed meaning you can exit with no idea which way to go to John Lewis. Hopefully this is a teething problem. Free parking at Blue water may still be my choice

User

Good range of shops but definitely will NOT be parking there next time! Parking prices are extortionate Even if you have spent quite a bit in JL & other shops, there are no discounts to park. Just park elsewhere...:

User

Bond Street itself gives Chelmsford a lovely feel. I love Hotel Chocolat and Foyles; I really missed having them on my doorstep! However, Chelmsford doesn't have enough parking facilities to cope with the new development whatsoever. It took me an hour to find a parking space and the city centre was at stand-still for most of the afternoon. And it's only October! I don't even want to think about going there before Christmas!

User

disapointed in john lewis! went purposely for a childs coat seen online. Arrived to find no childrens clothing department!! for a shop of this caliber and size i feel other departments can be disapeared or made smaller to make way for a childrens clothing dept.

bond street itself? we parked in high chelmer parking £4.50 for around 4 hrs i like the old part also, won't rush to get back to bond street

User

Recently moved from Windsor to Chelmsford. Wishing we'd rented and not bought! Bond Street just about rescues a tired old town full of empty stores, betting shops and hairdressers. Who needs a two floor mountain and ski store..?! No Zara, no Waitrose, no Wagamamas...can only hope better stores arrive but not hopeful.

User

Not impressed at all reminded me of a shopping area in Gloucester which I couldn't wait to leave, walking down from the high street is uninspiring with no thought put in to the final appearance. So who got it wrong the architect or the builders? It wasn't worth the wait!

User

John Lewis is ok if a little small..The cafe, which was terrible with silly young girls that didn't know what was going on behind the counter and terrible service was a joke. We walked out it was so bad..The area will be nice once some shops open up. Until that happens I would advise people not to bother.

User

Hoping for a great day christmas shopping in the new centre. Disappointed I'm afraid. John Lewis was ok but was hoping for a much bigger store and the rest of it all the same shops. Nothing different. Then to top it off charged £12 to park for 5 hours. Certainly not a way to encourage town centre shoppers. Won't be returning to finišh off the shopping!

User

Convinced the wife to go and take a look. The car park is clean and tidy but then it is new! Easy to park but I can imagine at xmas its going to be a nightmare! As stated on previous comments there is not going to be enough parking for how popular it will potentially be.

Its a shame it hasn't opened with all the shops up and trading from day one. Makes it feel like its only been opened for the John Lewis customers!

My wife and daughter were very disappointed at the xmas selection in John Lewis. Expected it to have a massive wow factor but instead was a slight disappointment. Also the cafe has been really badly designed for the size of the shop! The seating area is way too small leaving loads of people fighting (not literally) for a table.

I would say the same as others, and if you haven't yet been then don't bother until it is actually fully up and running with a decent selection of new shops. At the moment you will find yourself walking through to the old part and shopping there instead.

We will go back but not be making an effort to until it is worthwhile.

Oh and as side note the parking fees are a tad extortionate. £1.20 for an hour?! Water Gardens in Harlow is only £1 for 3 hours. Yes it doesn't have a John Lewis but does have a great selection of shops which is all thats important.
