This morning I’m heading back to @strawbhillhouse collecting my vases and plant stands from last week’s #strawberryflowerfestival I think the most interesting day for an eco florist would have been the day all the flowers were coming down, seeing all the clever mechanics used in setting up plastic free sustainable displays around the house. The best natural light and bright walls surround @aelisabetflowers beautiful work at @strawbhillhouse she has the most feminine, airy and light floral style and these pale pastels and pinks worked wonders in there. A room full of British flowers including a rose named Strawberry Hill and lots of scented flowers fitting Horace Walpole’s favourites in this beautiful set up by @nettlewoodflowers and @petal_hq Sarah grows exquisite blooms just a stone throw away from Strawberry House so this installation had virtually no carbon footprint. As all flower displays this one was also a sustainable design without any plastic floral foam involved. David Attenborough who is also a patron of this historic house would be very proud of the efforts of everyone. On Monday Sarah from Nettle Wood Flowers gave a talk on growing cut flowers sustainably as part of the festival where a fantastic audience of over 80 people came along 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Ammi - absolutely striking choice of flower in the blue room at @strawbhillhouse a floaty display by flower festival organiser @jannelford and @pigpenflowers the blue walls and white woodwork really show off the simple queen Ann’s lace which is more often than not used as a filler flower. Some areas at Strawberry Hill House were quite difficult to dress with flowers being a neogothic castle with beautiful but somewhat dark rooms, there was not always enough natural light. So you had to choose colours that work better in low light conditions. However @leigh.chappell.flowers did a wonderful job in this darker corner using lots of ammi, blossoming branches and white foxgloves and it worked beautifully. Flowers were grown by the @wolveslaneflowercompany. Leigh is a complete star, she didn’t just create this beautiful display but also organised the flower festival which was such a huge success 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 photography by @eva_nemeth

Another fabulous large scale display at @strawbhillhouse flower festival in the room next door to us was this magnificent urn filled with the most gorgeous scented rose briars and pale green light as feather foliages designed by @mossandstonefloraldesign It’s worth noting the length of each and every stem has to be huge for the scale of this design. And you need to be determined to tackle prickly stems and suffer battle injuries all over your arms and legs to install this pretty thing! As the best roses are also the most thorny ones. Strawberry Hill House flower festival is closing today and the beautiful flowers are all coming down. However there are many many beautifully captured images of many talented florists work to be shared here. I would love to show off my fellow florist @hollybee_flowers work, this was the window Holly flowered up next to my flowers. Just look at those stunning Cornus branches on the second image close up. We were aiming to frame the windows with flowers in the great north bedchamber and Holly created a lovely airy installation with the prettiest shades of pastels and delicate foliages. Wonderful day yesterday setting up these flowers at Strawberry Hill House for their Flower Festival. It’s a truly beautiful event in London on right now where over 40 florists contributed with natural sustainable floral designs throughout the building and every room in the house is bursting with British flowers. There are tours, talks on and you can go and visit the flower festival until Thursday. It’s such a treat for flower lovers. We had a wonderful morning yesterday playing with flowers and learning about creating flat lay images - a class taught by @eva_nemeth 🙌🏻 I was hosting the workshop but did manage to have a sneaky 5 minutes to make something with my Charles de Mills roses on one of Eva’s really cool backgrounds. In two weeks time I will be getting ready with my flowers for the Strawberry Hill House flower festival in Twickenham. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit this beautiful historic place where florists have been invited to decorate the house with British flowers in an eco friendly way, displaying their talent as well as promoting an environmentally acceptable floristry approach. A very exciting day class for florists and experienced flower enthusiasts planning an event. Sustainable event flowers - workshop in Northern Ireland’s beautiful Ballywalter Park in September. We will be using environmentally friendly foam free techniques and seasonal ingredients to create freeform floral installations on a larger scale for weddings and events. Late summer last year I took part in a photo shoot to promote an outdoor wedding venue very local to me. There are so many beautiful images featuring model and natural beauty @scarlettascope that I put it all into a blogpost the link is above 👆🏻 The place is pretty amazing and was created in a Sussex woodland by Johnny Woodford sculptor - Johnny creates woodland sculptures, cabins, buildings, playgrounds on a large scale mostly carved by a chainsaw! Quite incredible he lives... there what a lovely place to be and on a few select dates it can be hired for events. Johnny also made a giant wooden sculpture for Andy Sturgeon’s Chelsea garden this year, which you can see very soon. The flower installations at this styled shoot are sustainably put together, something I will be teaching at a NI workshop this autumn, but more about that in the next post. Woodfords is a beautiful place and we went back with photographer Eva Nemeth in late autumn to make some more flowery magic for some other projects I can’t wait to share with you.
