Edrees came to Brent from Afghanistan when he was just 11.
He lived in a few different foster families until he was old enough to get his own place. Now, Edrees is working for local company Gayways and is engaged to his childhood sweetheart Sadia.
Edrees said: “Brent Council have been very helpful since I arrived. They’ve helped with every possible situation and I am very grateful for everything they have done.”

At the Refugee Week event yesterday, guests listened to Taymaa Alessa, who has lived in Brent for the past year and a half, speak about her enjoyment of a project called "Creative Conversations".
This project, funded by Near Neighbours is a writing and storytelling course for refugees and migrants living in Brent.
Taymaa is currently volunteering with the project and will soon start volunteering with the College of North West London to teach English.
