Brompton Cemetery Description
Receiving 700, 000 visitors each year, Brompton Cemetery is managed by The Royal Parks.
This green oasis is one of the Magnificent Seven Victorian cemeteries created in a ring around London in response to the great cholera epidemics of the 1830s.
Located in a densely populated area of South-West London, Brompton continues as a working cemetery today, with Grade I listed heritage status and as a Site of Nature Conservation Importance. Prominent personalities buried at Brompton include suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst, pugilist Gentleman John Jackson and cricket champion John Wisden. Their resting places range from simple gravestones to stunning mausoleums.
The Royal Parks is developing a second round application to Heritage Lottery and Big Lottery Funds for this £5 million Brompton Cemetery Conservation Project: http://www. royalparks.org. uk /parks /brompton-cemetery /brompton-cemetery-conservation-project
Please comment on the Project Proposals by completing our visitor survey questionnaire before 17 October 2014: http://www. cfpuk. co. uk /bromptoncemetery /

Unfortunately we can't vote for Brompton but if you'd like to vote for one of our parks that would be great :)
Come and visit Brompton Cemetery, one of London's Magnificent Seven and one of the most distinctive cemeteries in Britain.
Here's a preview of our new short film about Brompton Cemetery.
Brompton has been a popular site for TV and film productions over the years. Here are a few shots from Sherlock Holmes (2009), courtesy of Tom Duke :)
Thank you to everyone who came to our open day yesterday! I hope you had as much fun as we did. Definitely my favourite day of the year at Brompton, it's lovely seeing the cemetery so buzzing with life 🙂
There's a great atmosphere today at Brompton Cemetery on the first open day since the restoration
The cemetery will be closed tomorrow, Friday 20th July, for landscape maintenance work. We'll be back open for the weekend, sorry for any inconvenience :)
Hope to see you all there!
We're running a survey on Brompton and we'd be really grateful if you could take five minutes to fill it in :)
Nice little video featuring interviews with our own Halima Khanom and Wesley Kerr OBE who worked on the restoration project :)
A few photos from a great day yesterday, where we celebrated the completion of the conservation project.
I hope we can welcome as many of you as possible to our open day on 22nd July :)
What an amazing setting for some great speeches. Thank you to everyone who donated, raised awareness and bought National Lottery tickets that provided the funding to make this project possible - and to everyone who will come visit and bring the cemetery to life in future.

The tours on their way to the chapel for speeches. Such a nice day!
The first tour down the avenue...
People gathering for the event, tours about to start... I'll try to live stream some snippets over the next half hour.
This was discovered under the site of the new visitors centre at Brompton's North Lodge. What do you think it might have been for?
