On this date in 2010 Burnt Ash Drama Association were holding our last dress rehearsal for our incredible production of "The Grapes of Wrath". This magnificent show is very memorable for all who were involved and all who saw it.
A highly emotional piece based on Steinbeck's classic novel with extraordinary performances from Mair Lloyd-Roberts, David Evans, Viv Noot, Julian Agnew, and many, many more. This was also a technical tour-de-force too, with a river on stage which the cast had to wade through, a stunning star-scape across the back of the stage with accurate constellations, a jalopy that the cast pieced together onstage with working headlights and not forgetting the incredible rain that filled the front of the stage.
Below are a few pictures to bring back some memories of this wonderful, award winning production.

Burnt Ash Drama Association have always been blessed with an incredible team backstage and behind the scenes who never get the full credit they deserve. One such person is Bert (our master set-builder), who has taken part in our "Two Minutes With A Member" segment. All who know him will not be surprised by the sense of fun that accompanies his response.

Happy Easter Monday to you from all of us at Burnt Ash Drama Association. Here is "Sonnet 98" by William Shakespeare to brighten your day.
"From you have I been absent in the spring, When proud pied April, dressed in all his trim, Hath put a spirit of youth in every thing,... That heavy Saturn laughed and leapt with him. Yet nor the lays of birds, nor the sweet smell Of different flowers in odour and in hue, Could make me any summer's story tell, Or from their proud lap pluck them where they grew: Nor did I wonder at the lily's white, Nor praise the deep vermilion in the rose; They were but sweet, but figures of delight, Drawn after you, you pattern of all those. Yet seemed it winter still, and you away, As with your shadow I with these did play."

Burnt Ash Drama Association would like to wish our patron and friend, Alan Ayckbourn a very happy 81st birthday.
This legendary playwright has given the world some of the finest and most well crafted works ever written and staged. Amongst the endless list of genius are "Relatively Speaking", "Time and Time Again", "The Norman Conquests", "Bedroom Farce", "Joking Apart", "Communicating Doors", "Seasons Greetings", and (suitably) "Birthdays Past, Birthdays Present".
Happy Birthday, Sir Alan.

Burnt Ash Drama Association wish you all a very Happy Easter Sunday.
"Oh, how this spring of love resembleth, The uncertain glory of an April day, Which now shows all beauty of the Sun, ... And by and by a cloud takes all away" (from "The Two Gentleman Of Verona" by William Shakespeare)

One year ago on this very day, Burnt Ash Drama Association were getting ready for the opening night of our multi-award winning production of "Blithe Spirit". Sadly we can't present our entry to the Bromley Theatre Guild Full Length Play Festival this year due to the current situation.
Don't fret though because we can continue our "Two Minutes With A Member" segment. Today we bring you the answers from Simon.

Burnt Ash Drama Association is pleased that we at least have the beautiful Spring weather for the Bank Holiday break. These wonderful words, by William Shakespeare from "Love's Labour's Lost", seem quite apt today. All the team at BADA would like to wish you a lovely, healthy and safe Easter weekend.
"When daisies pied and violets blue And lady-smocks all silver-white And cuckoo-buds of yellow hue... Do paint the meadows with delight, The cuckoo then, on every tree, Mocks married men; for thus sings he, Cuckoo; Cuckoo, cuckoo: Oh word of fear, Unpleasing to a married ear! When shepherds pipe on oaten straws, And merry larks are plowmen’s clocks, When turtles tread, and rooks, and daws, And maidens bleach their summer smocks, The cuckoo then, on every tree, Mocks married men; for thus sings he, Cuckoo; Cuckoo, cuckoo: Oh word of fear, Unpleasing to a married ear!"
