#Holloway Residents accuse #Islington Town Hall of ‘breaking promises’ over #CallyPark #clocktower hours http://islingtontribune.com/…/residents -accuse-town-hall-of…

... OBJECTORS to a new visitors centre for the clock tower in Caledonian Park have accused the Town Hall of “breaking promises” as new longer opening hours for the centre were approved last Tuesday.
Residents living near the Grade II* listed clock tower fiercely opposed the plans for the centre which were approved by the Town Hall two years ago. The new centre was meant to be completed this summer but workers were still seen on site this week.
The council applied to a planning committee to extend the opening hours for the centre which they had previously set.
Jake Auerbach, who lives near the centre, spoke against the new proposed hours which will see the centre and tower open for an extra three hours on Saturdays during the summer months.
He said: “This is no small adjustment. It is a major, damaging overhaul of the criteria set up by this committee to protect the residents. “In addition, these new proposals are not based on any factual evidence as the centre has not yet been completed, let alone opened.”
The new hours were approved by the councillors in the sub planning committee with two out of four voting against the extended hours. The hours were approved because of the backing of chairwoman Cllr Jenny Kay.

Jake Auerbach: “This is no small adjustment”
Clocktower Residents Group vice-chairman Mike Power said: “The council are not showing enough concern and are breaking their promise. One of the things they agreed to when the plans were approved were the quite limited opening hours which was a reaction to our massive campaign.”
He added: “The council want to clearly use the centre to make some money for private hires and various other things by extending the opening hours, but what about the residents?”
He said he was also unhappy with the delay to the works which was a “nuisance” for residents living near by.

#Islington council's latest attempt to extend the hours of the still unfinished Heritage Centre in Cally park. to object online https://www.islington.gov.uk/planning/app lications/comment Click "Search planning applications" "application number" = P2017/4433/S73 click "Add Comments Here" 8 October DEADLINE
The reason the council revised their original proposals of last February is because no less than 75 of you sent in objections at that time. The council was so shaken by ou...r community's strong reaction that they backtracked a bit.
We can build on this small victory by getting more objections in this time and demand that the original opening hours should be kept. So if you haven't submitted your objection yet, there's still time - you have until Monday 8 October. They will accept objections after that, but it's best to be on time.
Here's how to go about it:
1. to object online Go to https://www.islington.gov.uk/planning/app lications/comment Click on "Search planning applications" In "application number" insert P2017/4433/S73 Then click on the number in the left hand column under application number Then click on "Add Comments Here" You have until 8 October to get your objections in. 2. to object by post
If you, or anyone you know would prefer to write a letter of objection then write to: David Nip
Islington Council Planning Department
222 Upper Street London N1 1XR

In the letter you need to:
State your name and address Say that you are objecting to the Council's application to vary the hours in Application Number P2017/4433/S73 State the Site Address of the application which is: Caledonian Park Clock Tower and Heritage Centre Market Road London N7 9HF
Some of us have also requested to speak at the Planning Committee's hearing.

Longer opening hours at Caledonian Park visitor centre will mean an increase in noise pollution and traffic
... 23 February, 2018
• THE proposal to have longer opening hours at Caledonian Park visitor centre and café is not only ridiculous and unacceptable, but makes a mockery of residents, their thoughts on the matter and their welfare. This proves that this is a commercial enterprise, and not a community-inspired project.
After a long campaign that collected a lot of support (let’s just remember the 800-plus signatures on the last petition alone), the council still went ahead with a 250sq metre building just a few metres from residents’ homes, so I shouldn’t be surprised by the complete disrespect for constituents. All they care about is a giant cash cow they are now desperately trying to milk as much as possible.
There is no mention of how many fairs, parties and what-have-you they intend to have. It will probably be as many as possible. The proposal for 8am to 9pm opening every day, renting it out for parties and events, will cause an enormous, unfair amount of distress for people living nearby.
Longer opening hours will mean an increase in noise pollution and traffic, with deliveries coming and going from the early hours till late in the evening. Renting out the facility for parties will cause, again, a lot of noise and stress, with people coming and going until past 9pm.
The already scarce parking spaces in the area and its small roads will be further congested (by visitors arriving by car and deliveries), posing a real threat to safety. The area is full of children (there is a playground next to the centre and a school a few metres away) and elderly people. An increase in traffic can become dangerous.
Anti-social behaviour has always been an issue. Having an easy place where ill-intentioned youths can congregate has always been a concern. Longer hours could increase this.
In the past there have been a lot of anti-social behaviour problems during fairs in the park, with thefts at surrounding homes, nuisance throughout the day and into the evening, and increased litter and damage to the park.
This latest proposal is causing so much distress I can’t even think about the impact the centre will have on mine and other people’s wellbeing once up and running.

Islington Council is seeking permission to substantially increase the opening hours of the visitor centre and cafe, and to make the premises “available for private functions and parties”, when they open later this year. Many of you will have received a notice from Islington Council’s planning department asking if you object to these plans. Once again our Councillors have cynically reneged on their promises to limit levels of noise, disruption, waste and road safety, which the...
