Don't miss:
Our Undergraduate and MA Conservation Summer Show 2019 which closes today at 4pm.
INTRODUCING...... GirlyGuts, a collboration between BA Fine Art Photography students Amber Muir and Laura Nicholson. We caught up with them and they explained more about their magazine 'GirlyGuts issue 1' which is being exhibited at the Summer Show.
" Our first issue recognises that it is a distinctly feminist issue that the bodies represented in contemporary media are so overtly sexualised, objectified and subsequently dehumanised. Our introduction into the magazine of biological features ubiquitous to human beings attempts to approach a feminist concern from a point of universality. Our practice is built in an awareness of the objectification of women’s bodies that occurs constantly when a photograph of a woman’s body is presented and therefore we have chosen to use our own bodies and maintain a sense of control. We understand our audience to be conditioned by the traditions of the patriarchal structure in which we exist, and therefore our images are objectified in a way which we cannot regulate. We decide to present our images despite this, at times highlighting sexualisation and objectification to an extreme, confronting how inescapable the parameters of idealism and objectification when representing a woman’s body.
We took the photographs presented in the magazine over the course of the year and put it together on Indesign within the last six weeks; the biggest obstacle we had was trying to make it feel professional and to write well enough that the writing didn't appear secondary to our practice, which essentially it is. Today is your last chance to catch our Undergraduate and MA Conservation Summer Show 2019!
INTRODUCING... Aron Mathe
... Aron is a BA Fine Art Sculpture student here at Camberwell. Here, he tells us about his work and his future plans as a graduate…
"My work uniquely combines traditional methods of art such as oil painting and silicon casting with data driven 3-D software. My practice has been deeply influenced by bio-technology, Space exploration and post-humanism, which aims to add a new perspective the current critical debates that surround the future of society.
After graduation I am planning to continue the development of my practice by going to the United States to shoot a short film featuring an ongoing collaboration that I have been involved with scientists from NASA, Harvard, Colombia, Baylor College and the Mason Lab. The collaborative project is set to be showcased in a exhibition in New York and London, in the Summer of 2020. "

Our Undergraduate & MA Conservation Summer Show 2019 is now open until Saturday 22nd (closed Sunday 16 June)
INTRODUCING... Callum Watters
... Callum is a BA Fine Art Photography student here at Camberwell. Here, Callum tells us about his final project...
"Photography has been a medium in which I have been interested in using since the age of about 13. Camberwell became an obvious choice for me when picking where I was going to study my degree, mainly because of the flexibility in the courses. I was interested in photography but I didn’t want to be restricted to it, I wanted the opportunity to grow and learn new skills, which Camberwell provided.
I have been working with Blender, a 3D animating software. The piece explores the relationship of the digital and physically body and how they interact with mind. The work is semi-autobiographical and focuses on the issues I and many other men have faced regarding masculinity and acceptance.
The sound element of my work focuses on conversations I have had that have been transcribed and re written into a form that’s slightly poetic. The method of transcription was used to explore the idea of misinterpretation in a digitally focused world."
To see Callum's work and much more be sure to visit our Undergraduate and MA Conservation Summer Show 2019, open now until Saturday 22 June (closed Sunday 16 June).

Our Undergraduate & MA Conservation Summer Show 2019 is now open until Saturday 22nd (closed Sunday 16 June), MA Conservation will be showing their work in the Camberwell Space Gallery.
INTRODUCING... Kiri Douglas
... Kiri is an MA Conservation student here at Camberwell. Here, Kiri tells us about her final project...
"Pursuing a career in conservation involves all three of my main interests: chemistry, history and art, all of which I undertook as A-levels within my comprehensive school. This led to my undergraduate degree in cultural heritage conservation, which covered both immovable heritage and objects.
A work placement at Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum gave me an insightful experience of how important conservation is and begun my interest in paper conservation, after repairing prisoner letters. From here, applying to the MA in Conservation at Camberwell College of Arts, was a natural progression.
My final project was a 19th century watercolour painting of Elphinstone College, Mumbai, from the Royal Institute of British Architect’s collection. The painting had suffered from water damage, which had caused dark tidelines. Unsuitable backing supports had to be removed, before the painting could be washed. Tears were then repaired, and the painting framed."

Have you ever wanted to design your dream city? Now is your chance! Come along and create a city that evolves and grows.
‘Robot Eyesight Drawing’
Come and meet a robot, who will teach you how to draw with your eyes.
‘Blu-tack Collaborative Artwork’
Stick a blu-tack blob to the wall, adding your mark to the summer show.
Along with the regular workshops ran each Open House such as: print your own design onto a T-Shirt, make a photogram in the dark room or making a simple pot out of clay.
All of the workshops on the day are run by Camberwell’s talented staff, students and alumni, who will guide you through the process. No previous experience is necessary to take part, and all materials are provided.

Our Undergraduate & MA Conservation Summer Show 2019 is now open until Saturday 22nd (closed Sunday 16 June).
INTRODUCING... Clarice Ng
... Clarice is a BA Illustration student here at Camberwell. Here, Clarice tells us about her work that will be exhibited at the Camberwell Undergraduate Summer Show 2019…
"My final piece that I will be exhibiting for the degree show is my most recent sculpture work entitled In Your Hands, a series of interactive sculptures depicting the innate fragility of human’s beings. Viewers are invited to interact with the work — to hold, feel the weight, to touch every detail, curve and crevice unique to each sculpture.
This series of sculptures were made using scarva earthstone with details carved in using precision tools. Although they’re not made for sculpting, I’ve found scoring tools very useful in getting the variation of width for the detail work before going in which a needle. I chose to keep the sculptures unglazed, to retain a raw finish and used diamond filers to achieve a soft, satin-like texture.
I’ve really enjoyed my time at Camberwell, I really enjoyed speaking with the tutors, especially when they’re as enthusiastic about your work as you are. It’s also nice to be surrounded by a supportive student community of friendly, like-minded creatives. I also really enjoy speaking to the technicians, especially Tas from ceramics, James from letterpress and Eddie from the digital media suite!"

INTRODUCING... Lizzie Fuller
... Lizzie is an MA Conservation student here at Camberwell. Here, Lizzie tells us about her work that will be exhibited at the Camberwell Undergraduate Summer Show 2019…
"I applied to study MA Conservation at Camberwell College of Arts because I wanted to be able to care for objects on an interventive level and to have an increased impact on their condition and long term stability. I was also interested in developing a more in-depth understanding of materials and deterioration mechanisms.
My final project consisted of five Japanese woodblock prints from the Central Saint Martins Museum & Study Collection. The prints date to between 1796-1856 and are composed of handmade Japanese paper, coloured Japanese pigments and black sumi ink.
Following graduation I am looking forward to starting a new role as a Digitisation Conservator at the British Library. This will be an exciting and beneficial opportunity to work with such a significant and diverse collection, and to build on my learning from university within a professional studio environment."
To see Lizzie's work and much more be sure to visit our Undergraduate and MA Conservation Summer Show 2019. MA Conservation are showing their work in the Camberwell Space Gallery.

INTRODUCING...... Naomi Anderson-Subryan
Naomi is a BA Illustration student here at Camberwell. Here, Naomi tells us about her work that will be exhibited…
"It is entitled ‘The Collection’. The research for my final piece has centered around the wonderful world of collectors and their collections, and in particular the narrative potential of objects within collections.
For my final piece, I have anthropomorphised a fictional collection of 14 ceramic objects, all made by me, in an attempt to almost exclude the ‘collector’ from the equation and focus on the collection as it goes about its day-to-day life, and the problems/issues it may face.
My influences for this project were Kitsch, Pop culture and Staffordshire king Charles mantel dogs. I grew up watching a lot of comedy and sit-coms, so there is always an edge of humour (well, hopefully) to the work I make.
Studying at Camberwell College of Arts I’ve met loads of cool people and I’ve learnt so much about myself and the endless possibilities within the field of illustration, and I just want to continue learning through making. I’ve spent four wonderful years making stuff and transforming my ideas into something I can share with people, which is all I ever want to do!"
