Here's the latest news from Camley Street Natural Park:
Preparations continue to prepare the site for its re-opening in Spring 2020. Concrete foundations will soon be laid making way for the construction of the new Visitor Centre.
Volunteers have dismantled the old fencing and hand crafted a new woven hazel fence which borders the pathways throughout the site.
... We were excited to spot a large buzzard flying over the site on the 15th May! The large bird of prey was seen flying overhead before perching in a nearby tree momentarily. This rare sighting has offered a lot of encouragement in our conservation efforts.

e-DNA project with Natural History Museum
Did you know the UK is home to over 27,000 different species of insect? We've been working closely with the Darwin Centre e-DNA team at Natural History Museum, London to create simple guides to help you identify the species which have been found at Camley Street Natural Park.
Recently, we went behind the scenes to learn about the 20 million plus specimens at the Darwin Centre! Entomologist Chris Reper showed us the art of photo-stacking - a photography process to record tiny insects in high-definition detail. Images taken of specimens from the Natural History Museum's renowned archive will be used to help illustrate and distinguish different species in our upcoming handbook. Stay tuned!

The Snake’s-head Fritillary really does turn heads! The flowers are native to Britain and appear at Camley Street Natural Park each spring. The distinctive bell-shaped flowers come in shades of purple and white with a checked pattern all over. More than 95% of our wildflower meadows have been lost in recent years, but with correct management this species is quick to reappear. Thanks to your support we can work to ensure these areas across London are protected and managed correctly for the future. (📸: Liz Clark-Lim)

Here's the latest news from Camley Street Natural Park:
Liz, one of the latest #KeepingitWild project trainees will be working closely with the brilliant team at the reserve for the next three months. She'll be working with the various groups visiting the reserve and assisting the team with reserve management duties. Primarily working to create new hazel fencing, a skillful process where cut hazel is woven in-between set posts, similar to the basket weaving process. As part... of their Wild Action Programme with our #KeepingitWild project The East London Scouts have been regularly visiting the site to learn about wildlife in the heart of the city. They've been bird watching, surveying insect life and water quality testing. Despite its city centre location, a lot of creatures call Camley Street home, from kingfishers to stag beetles.
Camley Street Natural Park is temporarily closed to the public in order to prepare for the construction of the new Visitor and Learning Centre. The contractors are now preparing for construction. We will keep you updated as work progresses for this exciting new project.

Although Camley Street is closed to the public, staff & volunteers have been busy managing the reserve: Willows along the canal have been pollarded and thinned, giving us space for new wetland habitats to be created later in the year. This wood has been used to create new habitats for invertebrates and woodchip for the paths. The ponds have been maintained, tired fences replaced, and litter picking carried out. Many thanks to our volunteers for their help.
