About Carefully Sorted

Carefully Sorted is a London-based service dedicated to helping you organise and de-clutter your home, your office, your possessions and your collections.

Carefully Sorted Description

Founded by Liz Aitken and Julia Durand, Carefully Sorted is a London-based service dedicated to helping you organise and de-clutter your home, your office, your possessions and your collections. We are non-judgemental and practical and will work at your pace so that the careful sorting we undertake together has lasting benefits.

Carefully Sorted grew out of our separate experience of helping friends and family tidy and sort their homes and businesses. We have also helped people downsize, prepare for a move and get their homes ready for selling or renting.

We also have first-hand experience of sorting out our parents’ possessions when they died so we know how difficult it can be to decide what to keep and what to dispose of and are particularly aware of the sensitivities that follow bereavement.

We have experience of sorting and de-cluttering in every part of the home or small business:

• Bedrooms and playrooms
• Spare bedrooms (which are often unloved)
• Kitchens and utility rooms
• Living rooms
• Bathrooms
• Garages, conservatories and sheds
• Home offices, studies and craft rooms
• Small businesses, including stock rooms

and have worked on a wide range of items:

• Clothes, shoes and handbags
• Books, CDs, DVDs, records and sheet music
• Toys
• Photographs
• Collectables, including advice on displaying them
• Paperwork, including setting up filing systems
• Craft materials

If you think we could help you, please get in touch and we will contact you to discuss the scope of your project and our fees.

Troublesome squirrels are one issue, what to do with single shoes is quite another. Read our short answer on this 'odd' problem at the bottom of the Home Help section in today's Sunday Times.

We can't promise to find anything as valuable as a Lewis Chessman, but we often find long-lost items when working on decluttering projects with our clients.
If you are thinking about sorting out areas of your home and are finding even the thought of if overwhelming, why not get in touch? We think you'll be amazed at the difference we can make and you never know what you might find!

Several of my fellow APDO colleagues will be offering hints and tips at the newly-opened IKEA store in Greenwich on Wednesday May 15th. I can't be there, but I know they will be sharing really useful information, so if you get a chance to go along I highly recommended it!

Would you sort your household rubbish into seven, colour-coded bin bags? It is a very good question.
Read on to learn how some Swedish citizens follow the colour-coded system. True, items which can't be recycled are incinerated, but nothing goes to landfill.
As professional organisers, we always encourage our clients to recycle as much as they can. We find that knowing that their 'stuff' is not ending up in landfill really helps them let go.

There’s a first time for everything! Wrapping beautiful silk rugs in cling film ready for a trip to London. Love my job!

Spring Clearing Week starts today and, no, that isn't a typo - you need to clear before you can clean!
A recent survey by Money Magpie* found that 60% of the UK population see the traditional spring clean as a chance to declutter and clear rather than the top-to-bottom cleaning exercise undertaken by previous generations. So, in 2018, APDO introduced #SpringClearingWeek which focusses on decluttering and clearing our spaces and minds.
If you are considering tackling clutter which has built up over the winter months, but are feeling overwhelmed by the task, why not consider getting some professional help? We think you'll be amazed at the difference we can make.

Delighted to be in the Sunday Times today. Hopefully this will help other collectors dispose of their treasured record collections.

With other members of East End Trades Guild to find out if the mayors of Hackney and Tower Hamlets have honoured the pledges they made a year ago to protect small independent businesses from unreasonable rent increases. The stage is set...

We really do get out and about when meeting new clients...

Passed this on my way to a client this morning... it’s very apt because Julia Durand and I both love the fact that, with a business like ours, every day is an adventure!

Are you thinking about marking the 40 days of Lent by giving something up? Are you going to try and get through the next 40 days without chocolate, or wine, or some other favourite treat?
While such symbolic abstinence is a popular way of marking this time of year, have you ever thought of turning it into a charitable act?
There are several 40 day challenges gaining popular appeal. As a professional organiser and declutterer, the one which appeals to me, and which I think mo...st people could manage without any difficulty, is 40 days = 40 items.
Each day during Lent put one item you no longer need into a box or bag. At the end of the 40 days, take the bag of 40 items to your local charity shop. In this way, your symbolic sacrifice can make a difference to the charity of your choice.
If you are contemplating more extensive decluttering, and feel overwhelmed at the prospect, why not consider getting professional help? We think you'll be amazed at the difference we can make.

Carefully Sorted is a member of the East End Trades Guild and tomorrow (Saturday 23rd February) Julia Durand and I will be joining fellow guild members at Old Spitalfields Market where we will be drumming up business for Carefully Sorted and raising awareness of APDO too.
We are very aware of the irony of promoting decluttering services in the middle of a busy market, so we will probably concentrate on professional organising and helping people make the most of their collections!
If you are in the Spitalfields area tomorrow (Saturday February 23rd) do come and say hello!

Decluttering is all the rage at the moment and the media is full of articles about the benefits of sorting out our stuff.
While joy can be one of the happy by-products of having a clear out, useful cash can be another. However, seller beware, our old belongings may not be as valuable as we would like to think.
If you are thinking of selling goods on line we advise you to be realistic and patient, as it can be a time-consuming process.
... If you are contemplating having a sort out and are daunted by the size of the task, why not think about getting professional help? We think you'll be amazed at the difference we can make.
