Cauk Staines Description

We specialise in Self defence (JuJitsu), Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts classes have a mixed age range, ability levels and are pretty equally split with guys and gals! The self defence class follows a JuJitsu syllabus with some great street self defence techniques and ground work. It is important to look at a wide range of techniques so you have more at your disposal should you ever need them. We also look at the main area of self defence which is learning how to spot potential incidents and avoiding them. It's a friendly atmosphere and new comers are welcomed and encouraged. Our JuJitsu class on Tuesday have a mixed age range, ability level and are pretty equally split with guys and gals! The class includes JuJitsu syllabus with some great street self defence techniques and ground work. The class on Thursday is a mix between Kickboxing and mixed martial arts. It is predominantly sparring utilising Kickboxing AND Jujitsu. It involves kicking, punching, takedowns with throws, sweeps, ground work, locks and chokes (for adult advanced practitioners only) all mixed together. Test your postures, use your Jujitsu techniques in a practical way whilst being resisted and counter attacked. All sparring is controlled and the emphasis is on learning and not combat. Find your limits of balance and learn to work yourself into the correct positions to maximise the use of angles whilst avoiding or minimising the risk of counter attacks and spoils. C. A. UK club uniforms to be worn.

This is Will Bear. He is a great lad. Tonight we were concentrating on rolls. The first part of the video shows Will rolling me from an outside wrist lock. The second part of the video shows Will doing a defensive roll out of an arm lock. Will has been training for 5 months. Well done Will Bear.

A simple T Bar Crush from Roundhouse punch. Encouraging students to expand on the use of techniques develops their understanding of how something works. Sid then applied the same technique from a wrestlers hold. Same technique, different application.

JuJitsu training resumes as normal on Tuesday 15th August at 7:15pm. See you there.

Tonight was our last training session until 3rd Jan 2017. We were looking at flow of technique. Trying to draw guards up or down so we can strike the head, the ribs or the solar plexus. The only kick we used was the snap kick. The idea again was to draw the guard up with punches to the head and using the flow of movement, put a snap kick to the solar plexus. Cristian is a very spirited lad. You can see him concentrating on the side of the body with punches and then kicking to... the centre mass. During the short flurry of punches and kicks at the end he keeps his guard fairly tight and doesn't panic. The punches I throw barely connect. This helps build confidence with his guard and helps him stay focussed on defence. It also helps him get used to staying calm and in control whilst under attack. No one was even slightly hurt during the making of this video.

Today we were looking at ways to defend yourself from attacks whilst carrying a sack of toys. Specifically for Santa's being mugged whilst away from the sleigh. These are two of the basic Santa techniques we worked on. No toys were damaged during this demonstration. 👍

Now is a good time to start training. We have several new students all enjoying the challenge.

Sparring usually has a rhythm. One party will generally throw 4, 5 or 6 punches then step back. The other party then returns with their flurry of strikes and so on. When the attack slows or stops it allows the opponent to reset and switch from defence to attack mode. (Next time you watch a sparring session try and spot this pattern). The video shows one way to slow or stop an initial attack. The attacker is focused on attack and generally, for a split second, not thinking about defence. This is a prime time to strike.
