Central Film School Description

The school was created to provide a new level of film education to students training to work in the industry. The award winning work produced by our students reflects the quality of our film training and the unique training system that has been developed at the school.

We aim to provide every single student with unequalled personal support and professional training, which is the reason why our class sizes are kept small and why entrance to our full-time courses is based on a competitive interview and application materials.

Central Film School London has a warm, vibrant and creative atmosphere; a place where you are known by name from your first day with us, a place where you can develop your unique voice as a filmmaker and ultimately the place where you can launch your career from through the work you will produce, the many industry professionals you will meet during your time with us and access to our facilities once you have graduated.

We bring together some of the finest film tutors in the world. All of our tutors are working industry professionals with credits such as ‘The Hurtlocker’, ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘Batman: The Dark Knight’ and ‘Atonement’ ranging to classics such as ‘The Third Man’ and ‘The African Queen’ and ‘The Misfits’. Our tutors are experts in their fields, having won a host of major international awards.

Central has also become the school that attracts the most exciting filmmakers working in the industry today, including multi-award winning writer-directors like
Noel Clarke (‘Kidulthood’, ‘Adulthood’, ‘4. 3. 2. 1’), Gareth Edwards (‘Monsters’) and Paul Andrew Williams (‘London to Brighton’, ‘The Cottage’).

On a personal note, watching aspiring filmmakers transform into respected industry professionals is a very rewarding experience. In my last sixteen years in film education I have had the pleasure of working with some very gifted, dedicated students who have now gone on to work on an incredible range of major film projects with A-List actors and directors all over the world.

If you believe in yourself enough to take up the challenge involved in making it in this amazing industry then we very much look forward to receiving your application for one of our industry level courses.

With best wishes

Our #CinemaOfTheWeek is Rich Mix London!
As well as having a cinema, Rich Mix is East London’s independent arts centre. The building, once a huge, 62,000 ft leather factory, was transformed into a multi arts venue. So in addition to cinema, the programme includes live music, theatre, dance, spoken word, comedy and exhibitions.
As the cinema is so close, right by Shoreditch High Street Station, it’s great for you guys. It shows most of the new releases, some arthouse as well a...s blockbusters, and ticket prices are affordable if you go at the beginning of the week, only £7.95 for students.
Rich Mix also has a lot of free space which it hires out, sometimes for free, to people for rehearsals for the arts. This is great if you need somewhere to hold auditions or rehearsals, especially if the school is unavailable or you want to get out of the classroom.
Remember to support your local cinemas! It’s important in this time of film piracy, streaming and downloading.

Our #CinemaOfTheWeek is the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley!
It was built in 1910 by Premiere Electric Theatres, however the company went bankrupt before the cinema was ever opened. In 1912 a new group bought the site and it was finally opened as East Finchley Picturedrome.
Phoenix is a not-for-profit organisation which is uniquely operated by a charitable trust, meaning that the cinema is truly run by the local community. Patrons of the cinema include Ken Loach, Benedict Cum...berbatch, Dame Judi Dench, Michael Palin and many others.
One of the most special things about Phoenix is that it uses its resources for the benefit of a wider population by encouraging the greatest possible access to film related activities for its diverse local communities. It has special dementia screenings, audio described screenings and subtitled showings. It also has special films and screenings for children.
Phoenix show a variety of films including new releases, classic films and some art house features. They also screen opera and theatre, sometimes live. Student tickets are £8 and definitely worth a trip to East Finchley!
