London College of Fashion have been working in partnership with luxury fashion group Kering since 2014, so far enabling more than 1000 graduate changemakers to enter the fashion industry with critical sustainability knowledge and experience. In the third Better Lives lecture of 2018, the co-creators of the partnership will discuss the relevance of industry – academia collaboration in teaching fashion design for sustainability.

Better Lives is a term we use to describe the work we do at LCF that uses fashion, as a discipline, to drive change, build a sustainable future and improve the way we live. This encompasses research and projects across all levels (PhD, MA and BA), and areas of the college’s portfolio including fashion design, media and communication, business, science and technology.
At the Centre for Sustainable Fashion we explore vital elements of Better Lives, and as part of this initiativ...e CSF are hosting the 2018 Better Lives Lecture Series. Focused on Past, Present and Future the series will celebrate and reflect on the contribution our students make to Better Lives through their varied practice.
The second event in the series celebrates and promotes the work of our current PhD community, whose projects explore many areas of the ‘Better Lives’ agenda. From understanding the uses, possibilities and applications of repair as a strand of environmental sustainability, to investigating materials and meaning, and how embellishment can deliver an alternative to the seductive notion of exotic animal materials.
Presentations of current projects are followed by dialogue between researchers around key issues. Group and audience discussion will follow the presentations.

To encourage innovation, over the last five years the Better Lives Awards for MA students have been sponsored by Procter and Gamble, personified by Professor Paul Matts, who has worked with the LCF’s Cosmetic Science courses for many years. This award follows the previous Looking Ahead Award sponsored by Unilever and established by Dr Phil Sams.
The first event in the 2018 Better Lives lecture series will present the work of previous recipients of the P&G Better Lives Masters Awards, along with completed PhD research that embodies the Better Lives ethos.

Call for papers out now!!! CSF is proud to announce it will be hosting the conference ‘What’s Going On? A Discourse on Fashion, Design and Sustainability’, aiming to explore the dynamics, challenges and propositions of fashion and sustainability through the lens of design thinking and practice.
The conference will be the next edition of the Global Fashion Conference, and takes place at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London on the 31st October and 1st November 2018.

Calling all final year London College of Fashion - Official BA and all MA students who want to apply for the 2018 Kering Award for Sustainable Fashion, the brief is now live. You have until 22nd December to register your interest.

CSF's Education for Sustainability Manager, Nina Stevenson, will be talking at the V&A's Making It: Careers in Fashion event this Saturday (25th) at 4pm about the issues surrounding the human and environmental impacts of fashion.
