Chelmsford Star Co-Operative Society Description
Welcome to Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society based in Essex with an annual turnover of over £93 million. We trade in food, departmental stores, travel and funerals across Braintree, Chelmsford, Ingatestone, Danbury, Writtle, Hockley, Canvey Island, South Benfleet, Tilbury and Shoeburyness.
Our Society is run like any other retail business, but with a difference - we follow a co-operative set of values and principles, and we are owned and controlled by our members (shareholders).
Co-operatives have always believed in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others. That’s just as true today as it was way back in 1844 when the Rochdale Pioneers launched the first successful retail co-operative.
The aim then was to supply goods to the general public via a membership scheme which cost £1 to join – a large sum in those days and yet today it still only costs £1 to join most retail societies including ours. Members were also entitled to receive a proportion of the profit from their purchases, which was returned to them in the form of a dividend, and this is still the case.

Quadrant is the best department store in Chelmsford City Centre. Staff are always helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable about their products. Could not recommend them more.
Our local store is full of helpful staff,mainly cheerful&always willing to help me shop.I need help shopping as I'm a wheelchair user&I always get a helping hand from the lovely team!�The Mungo Park Road store is our local store.�

The newly opened branch in Woodford Green is ridiculously expensive!
Overcharged last 3 times I've been in to the Barnard Road, Galleywood shop. No apology, barely a grunt and never any eye contact from one particular young man! Not going back!!
I went in shop today asked if I would be able to change a Co op bag I purchased ( yes at another store) bag had a hole in it. Was told no as it was in a different region. (other Co op is only 17 miles away) In every shop they take your card to give you points. But can't change a bag. Every tesco, Asda, sainsbury to name a few you can take back and change there products but not Co op. Seem to be different shops but all have the same logo and advertising .
Danbury post office, made a right cock up with their quotation, I'm £8 out of pocket now and coop don't wanna know. Terrible after care customer service ������ I'm now taking it further to make a complaint to the head office ������
