After languishing off road for over 4 years, why did we recommission this MG TF stepspeed? - We bought the TF for the number plate. Realising the TF has the MG CVT sports auto gear box and being the 'World's Most Beautiful Cabriolet' by Italian designers 2003 - This rare iconic roadster should provide interesting and scintillating drives.
The MG TF CVT sports auto “gearbox” is a six-speed sequential 'Tiptronic' transmission – “kick the floor” and its 118bhp/122lb ft torque ...can get the rear wheels spinning on its way to 0 to 60mph in 9.7 seconds. A very responsive “gearbox” it lets you snap up and down the ratios Formula One style, either the gear selector or the steering-wheel mounted up/down controls. Clutch-less gear changing whilst hanging onto the revs through winding roads is a breeze. With its lower weight to power ratio it will outstrip our 1.8 K Series engine ZR 120 with the same racing style “Tiptronic” gearbox. The TF feel quicker than our MG F 1.8 VVC with manual gearbox.
The MG TF is more than just an old car wearing slick body panels. Real development shows through in MG TF –a new generation roadster! Beneath the attractive dart-like body line, restyled air intakes/rear deck and behind the stylish projector lights - lives an amazingly different roadster. MG redesigned the TF running gear/suspension to give it even more agility. To the front are double wishbone suspension with coil springs - at the back is a multi-link rear axle set-up (important on a mid-engine car). The TF has real get-up-and-go.
15 years ago MG produced a great roadster with the TF - a worthy successor to the MG F that’s every bit practical as it is fun to drive.
