Delighted to announce that CVF is teaming with Aperture Asia & Pacific Film Festival on their coming screening of Aqerat (We, the Dead) on Saturday 30th June at the Cinema Museum in London!
The latest challenging and artistic outing from director Edmund Yeo, the film is a topical feature focusing on migration of persecuted Rohingya to Malaysia, and really deserves to be seen on the big screen.
The screening is one of three on 30th June at the Cinema Museum, with Aperture als...o featuring A Letter to the President (Roya Sadat, Afghanistan, 2017) and Fake (Tatsuya Mori, Japan, 2016), with special ticket prices and 2 and 3 film passes available – definitely worth checking out!

AQERAT (We, the Dead) dir. Edmund Yeo, Malaysia 2017, 106 mins, Mandarin/Cantonese + subtitles
A young ethnically Chinese woman from Malaysia, Hui Ling, works at a floating restaurant near the Thai-Malaysian border, saving money to fulfil her dreams of a better life in Taiwan. When the hot-tempered boyfriend of her bar hostess roommate Qi Qi makes off with her savings, her boss proposes a way for her to make money more quickly, working alongside a group of human traffickers handling boatloads of refugees from the persecuted Rohingya Muslim minority group arriving from Myanmar. However, it is not long before Hui Ling realises the dark truth behind the trade as, rather than offering the new arrivals a safe haven in a new country, her employers have further ways of extracting money from them.
