Clacton Weekender Eight 2017

The Underground Groove team has been responsible for some great weekenders in Clacton, Essex already. Some great acts to have already graced the stage.

We landed in Clacton back in 2010 under the guise of Modzine. The Guv'nor, Rob, had the idea initial of a Mod mag (hence the origins of the name) and along with Dee they put together a tremendous, well supported weekend. Ash had been asked to DJ at the weekend and when the band he was managing were asked to play his involvement grew. By the weekend Ash had joined the two founders. There were a couple of events organised after the initial weekend under the Modzine banner but Rob & Ash decided they were of such similar opinion that it would make sense to avoid any disagreements by continuing the event under their own banner and Underground Groove was born. With a very strong team around them, including not just awesome DJ but top advisor and grafter behind the scenes, Kev Lock. We are pleased to have welcomed Del & Christine onto the team who are already actively involved with our events.

How we try to add the Groove for the Groovers
It would be ignorant to think we know what everyone else would like to hear, see, etc at a Clacton Weekender. What we do believe in is that we provide value for money. It may come from Rob's management background in the fast moving world of retail - tickets are kept at a ridiculously low price and people flock to Clacton to see all the bands - a pile 'em high sell 'em cheap ethos, which results in high demand for tickets and a struggle for onsite accomodation. The two years of Underground Groove have seen every caravan booked for the Weekender! I suppose the fact that you can be paying in excess of £20 to see any of our headliners at a gig anywhere else so it means you'll be paying under a pound to see all the other bands we have on, let alone the other things going on.

What does make the Weekender what it is are 'The Groovers'. The people that make the effort to attend the weekenders. They, as typifies our scene, are one big happy family. There has been somuch positive feedback to the team but when asked about improvements we can make the advice has been invaluable. Our friends from Ipswich (Coasters SC) have been especially supportive with their advice, along with the In Crowd SC, Colchester DLVC, the Southend crew etc. It's not our Weekender but that of those attending. We're just proud to be organising it and see it as a privealage to serve our community. That's why it's been a success so far because it's such a team effort from the 'Groovers', the bands, the DJ's and the Underground Groove team.
